The ortho practice and PT practice I go to is the practice contracted for the states NFL, NHL, NBA teams and well as all the NCAA teams. These guys not only know sports injuries but have experience working with athletes to keep them moving through injuries and then use off seasons for surgeries and recovery. So they actually can tell someone if they can compete through an injury or if they really need to be benched and recover now.

Most run of the mill orthos just work with everyday people so their approach is always to stop and let heal. They really don't empathize with the sacrifice and dedication athletes have to getting to their comp or getting through their season and how that is the most important thing, not necessarily being 100% healthy right now.

I also think it means something to have an NFL coach look at you and say its a bad idea to let an injury fester and you need to stop. They are paid big bucks to keep people moving and know how to do it. When they say stop, typically that means something.

If you aren't seeing a practice like that may want to try and see if they have any other options or suggestions.

I also wonder if PRP therapy would be helpful but I think thats more for tendon/ligament injuries more than muscle.

This week I am taking it easy so I’ve lightened the weight and am doing sets of 20 as a break. Coming to learn that sets of 20 deadlifts might not actually be a break, regardless of how light the weight is. Blaaarg...

What’s up guys. Been reading through and most of you seem way more advanced than me. Hence the reason for joining in on the thread, I need to learn all I can.

I’m in my late 20s with absolutely no fitness experience until 2 years ago. First started intermittent fasting and doing hiit body weight work last year and went from 205 down to 157 for a low. I’m 6’1.” This year once COVID and our lovely governor destroyed my business I started doing starting strength and dropped the IF to help gain the weight back in muscle. I’ve been very happy with my results, and pleasantly surprised at my abilities.

The last month I’ve realized I’ve finished out my linear progression on starting strength and started a heavy/light/medium plan, as well as started IF again, though focusing heavily on my macros and still getting a lot of calories.

Anyway, just thought I’d introduced myself, bc I’m sure I’ll have questions from time to time!

I’ve read good stuff about BPC157 as well, if you end up trying either out let me know how it goes.

Welcome. Beginner gains and just keep grinding. If it were me, I'd get strong first and then maybe get a bit bigger. While the two are related, there is a difference in how you train for them...simplified, strength athletes train to make heavy things feel light, bodybuilders make lighter things feel heavy.

Thats what I’ve been seeing. Basically high weight/ low rep (5) for strength or higher reps (6-10) for hypertrophy? Since I started with SS, I’ve obviously been doing strength training, which is what I think I’ll stick with, as I like seeing the numbers go up :D

I was pretty weak starting out, I’m feeling pretty good about where I’m at now. The mirror says I look a bit more built than before, which I’m not going to complain about either.

That's like me with a coach who's telling me I do too much and need to rest more.

Ok so I'll walk 10 miles today instead of run.

    No thats not resting

    But it's slower.

    But it's not resting.

    Ok I'll walk 9 miles.

    *facepalm*

I’m sorry to hear about your business.

Its my dream to own a brewery. I can’t imagine owning one right now. I probably would be in jail from either operating illegally or threatening politicians.

Can’t imagine. I feel for you.

I’m a fellow IFer. Been doing it just over a year. Love it.
    What hours do you follow?

thanks. Business had been a dream since high school, had it going just over a year.

I love the IF. I work 2nd shift and work out 3 days a week in the mornings so I eat after I’m done, from 10am-6pm. I’ve been amazed how much better I feel overall when doing the IF.

I enjoy it. Less meals to worry about and I can have more high calorie delicious foods for the meals I have.
I normally do 16:8 (11-7) but sometimes do 20:4 or OMAD.

I feel better as well. I especially love fasted running. Less tummy issues.
