The heart is a muscle and can grow too. That’s what tends to happen when people push too far beyond what their body wants to be. Not necessarily a byproduct of gear, but just pushing your shit too hard for too long and your heart grows and starts to close off sections. Iirc it’s a big issue with running GH.

Yep. Like I said, I don't know much about his past or health. I have met him and I know he's always been a bigger guy, like 6'3" 330lbs ish. I don't think he was on insane amounts of gear since he was a master's athlete and more in it for fun and competition. Just sucks seeing that.

Gah damn. Sorry to hear that. That’s like when Gabe(Texas titan) was competing at WSM. His heart got off beat and stayed off until that evening when he got checked up and he could’ve had a heart attack at any moment from it so they pulled him.

realistically, strongman is moving more towards moving events rather than raw strength so there’s no need to be huge for most of em anyway.

He was smart and listened to his body. Lots of guys aren't and they push through that. I've talked to Gabe and he has mentioned to me LVH and stress was a major part of that episode. This sport is hell on the heart, especially for big guys, and especially for elite guys at WSM. The amount of strain it takes to get to that level is simply insane, but I understand the drive to get there 100%.

Without a doubt. Us lightweight guys be feeling it after a carry medley. Can’t imagine how the body feels with 150Lbs+ more mass on your frame.

That is tragic to hear, my heart goes out to his family...

Spoken like a wise man Travis; I love the sport of Strongman, but I know my stretch of competing will only last a handful of years. The wear and tear is just so brutal that it's not worth the long term effects to me. There are things that the top guys in my weight class do that I'm just not willing to do for my long term health and I'm content with that. That may be easier for me to say compared to you because there really is no way of earning a living or 'going pro' in my class.

Personally I've always felt that conditioning was vastly overlooked in Strongman and most research point towards better health markers for those who regularly participate in cardiovascular training. I think there is plenty of room to fit conditioning into Strongman training without running interference with maximal strength adaptations. Of course I'm a bit biased considering I work a job that requires at least decent level of conditioning :D Either way, I'm not completely sure why I'm telling you this because I know it's information you already know, I guess I'm just happy to hear you say that overall health is important!

Maybe if anabolics were legal and we studied their use we’d actually be able to limit the negative consequences of them or substantially reduce their impacts.

    :notsure:

This is why I spent countless hours researching them before involving myself in them. Still spend hours researching. While I'm not a scientist, at least I'm taking the safest path for myself

well either one had it’s advantages but I was only asking because when I’m on cuts and my carbohydrates are restricted I know my lifts suffer. But I used that’s not the case for you this time :notsure:

I'm glad I never have to cut for shows.

Side note, I am cutting now and the current training block is 2 heavy lift days, 1 cardio/endurance day, and 1 mix of both day. All while cutting and on a carb/cal deficit. I am HUNGRY.

    Look at this shit....
