There is a huge difference in being a fabricator in a shop and being a welder that either travels to job sites or works out in the field. As a fabricator I just had to eat a little more, but I had a fridge and microwave within 100 feet of me. If he’s traveling to jobs or out in the field then he’s moving a shit ton more than a fabricator and doesn’t have a microwave or fridge, which limits his options.

I was a shop fabricator for the past 14-15 months before changing to this job. HUGE difference in being 20 minutes from home and working a standard 50 hour work week to driving 2 hours each way and working 7-12’s. I made great gains while working. Just this new venture, is way more time consuming and exhausting than the previous job.

Yep. It is what it is. Guess I am bitching/venting but was jus seeing if anyone else has gone through similar situations and how they handled the change. No fridge or microwave is definitely a fun thing to adjust to.

After I graduated I worked construction and had to travel 2 hours to DC everyday. Up at 2:45am and home at 4. Hit the gym straight after. Now I didn’t have a kid, wife, responsibilities at the time but you can do it. Shit sucks but it’s just a part of life.

I'm going to say it, are you ready?

    Fasting.

Now, it takes some adjusting to. I'd go from 16 hours and extend it from there to whatever fits your day.

It doesn't solve the problem, just kicks the can down the road, so those times you do eat you need to eat like a king, but it could be helpful at least for half or most of your day.

You can also do protein shakes or some homemade preworkout with Karbolyn or Dextrose preworkout to break your fast prior to lifting.

It really is convenient to not have to worry about food when you do any fasting periods. Just make sure you hydrate well and probably need to supplement with electrolytes.

Yeah the wife and kid takes up the remaining time mostly. It is just part of it. Hopefully can get back to a 40-50 hour week after this spring and train hard again

    I crack myself up.

I cut myself pretty bad this weekend. Almost cut the end of finger off. My doc buddy said I really should get it stitched up and xrayed but I'm tapped out on paying for medical care.

Good news is I cut a nerve and can't feel the end of the finger so no pain. Bad news, no lifting for at least a week.

Extra bad news, I've gained 18lbs. Went for a run today and I felt like I was running with a weight vest. Gotta clean the eating up. I'm scheduled to run a trail half marathon in 5 weeks. :)

Sounds like it’ll be good to have something to train for!
Born with ten fingers, that leaves a few to spare!

    It will :)

The race just announced it would hold the race 2 weeks ago, I was initially (in January) going to try for the 50M but I'm not training for it without a confirmation the race was going.

Now I'm all fat and unfit so figured 13 miler was safe and easy enough :). I am thinking I will try for the 50M next year, this race will just be checking out the course.

So I usually never make fun of people in the gym.

    But.....

Today this kid kept trying to "out squat" me during my warm-ups.... Straight up ego lifting and adding one more plate then me, watching me squat, then would jump in and do his reps and walk off like a bad ass. Caught him on his last set before I jumped up to working sets.

    Just watch lmao

that’s fantastic. There are a couple older guys (probably 60s?) in my gym that do everything 100% incorrectly. From curls to bench to chest flies...it’s all so bad. I can’t help but just stop and watch them. On one hand I think hey, you’re 60 and in the gym, good for you. Then I’m like, you’re 60, so you’ve had time to learn and still do this...and will probably hurt yourself...

There are some old guys at my gym that not only do shit wrong, but fling weights around dangerously.

I could herniate a disc just watching them do lat pull downs.

Lol that video is great. I was once in the gym when some highschool kids came in...I was doing dB press and this kid walks in front of my bench and grabs the 70s and proceeds to do some sort of full body seizure curl for 2” reps.

I wanted to tell him it’s ok I can’t curl 70s either lol....

now that I workout at home the only idiot I catch doing shit wrong is my reflection

I call 'em Z-RoMs. Zero Range of Motion's. All weights and no range. BTW I see this for all age ranges. ...and when I find fault with someone's form, that is bad, given that my strength in life is to be a bad example. :D

I bet people judge me at the gym. I do leg presses at like 5th reps because I’m doing VMO PT. But I bet everyone in there is like “look at this fucking clown with his partial reps”.

For me, it's usually quite obvious who is working under restrictions vs. "show offs".

:rofl:I would have loved to see his face when you started your working sets! I usually keep my mouth shut at the gym because ya know, if they wanted my help they would ask for it but I CAN'T STAND the half-rep/quarter rep bullshit squats!!! Just lower the weight and get the adequate amount of stimulus you need without risking injury.

As a side note, I'm sure you would agree that for the most part it doesn't matter what weight is on the bar; if you have a keen eye you can typically gauge how strong someone really is by bar speed, form, general build, etc. So all in all you're not fooling anyone with your ego lifts lol.
