i feel you brah. One thing I might suggest is to reach out to the promoter and ask if they would be willing to open up the under 200 class for you. I’ve done something similar in the past and it worked. Sometimes they just don’t think there is enough interest in subclasses until someone comes along and asks.

I just sent an email to ask :spy: such a huge jump in weight classes. From 181 and less to 220 and less. Doesn’t make sense

Nick Bare completed the Leadville 100 this morning in just shy of 28 hours. Pretty bad ass for a first 100, especially ones who lowest elevation is 9500ft.

Welcome back! Besides not being a serious workout person to begin with, how did marriage keep you away from doing curls in the squat rack for the past 10 years?

    Be well:)

To be fair the slope didn’t hit me until 43 or so but yeah man. Have your base built by then or it’s going to be brutal…all the built guys over 40 were built guys under 40.

I hope that I have a couple more decades of improvement ahead of me. I sure as hell hope I don't go to the grave with this being my peak. That would be pretty depressing. I'd just stop working out now and save myself the waste of energy.

I'd like to climb more mountains, be a faster runner, and do a few more ultras before I see the downhill ahead of me.

I can't lift heavy anymore (lower body), but that's cool because that really wasn't on my to do list. But I hope I still have plenty of improvement left in other areas.

And 40 isn't all that old... lol Thats like... not even half of most people's lives.

Well performance over time is a bell shaped curve, and likely peaks in mid thirties for absolute strength, earlier for speed, maybe a bit later for endurance. Also there is an actual bell curve of individual distribution within that bell shaped performance curve such that there are outliers on either end of the spectrum.

If you want to continue to improve as you age you have two options: redefine improvement along metrics which you can achieve and continue to adjust them or, be a total sack of shit now that can’t get worse and every little bit of training will result in an improvement.

    be well

I am 48 and still try and get 8 hours a week in my gym and 18 to 22 miles a week running. I still love it but i struggle more and more to get up at 345 to work out and run every day. For the last three years i have tried to get in good enough shape to do a full marathon but i just have not been able to. I did enjoy 3 halfs this summer and 21 miles worth of legs in a 206 mile relay. It is difficult when more things hurt than done in the mornings.
