Yep. Was on track to peak perfectly for this next comp and then I caught covid last week. Been sick as shit and am still getting over it. I missed my heaviest training week and now my shit is all thrown off but I'm still gonna compete in 2 weeks. Hopefully I am 100% come show time

I am. I got to the point where I absolutely dreaded going to the gym. Burnt out.

gained some weight for strongman and that fucked with my head some as well. Sitting around 215-220 currently. Dropping back down to 190-200lbs slowly and doing the ole bro split training to get back into just enjoying the gym. After life settles down and I get my head right, I’ll get back into strongman stuff.

    Hi

My brother and his wife started taking me to the gym with them a year and half ago while they were home on break. I'd never stepped foot in a gym before and was totally clueless. They showed me bench, deadlift and squat amongst other things. They left in January a year ago and I decided to stick with it and try to keep going. I got up to 120 on bench and 230 on deadlift which I was pretty proud of being brand new. Then I got some set backs with my wrists and feet and had to dial it back so I wouldn't make those injuries worse. I've been working at getting back up those numbers slowly so I don't hurt anything and I'm happy to report that today I benched 3 reps of 115 again. I'm shooting for plates. (Sorry if that's unimpressive guys. Gotta start somewhere :notsure: and I think that's decent for a lady)

Also, I'm reading starting strength to get a better handle on form errors I think I'm making.

5 weeks into my 28th year of pumping iron. Feels great! Step by step stud! You'll get back on track and be where you want to be. Not to be a broken record but consistency is everything! BW

I'm glad you are taking the time to get it back to a place where it's enjoyable.

    Hey that's awesome!

Those are impressive numbers don't be too humble.

    How old are you?

Is there an 'embarrassed emoji on here?
    • Plates on bench
    • 250 deads
    • Correct form for squat
Overall, honestly, I'd just like to feel confident in my strength and be able to do more than I can now.

I'm not great at goals cause they tend not to motivate me. Changing my mindset motivates me.

Probably more than any of the goals I listed, I'm going for self-discipline. That's the most challenging, I think. So showing up consistently, deciding to put in the work, staying focused and in the moment, deciding to push myself and knowing when not to is what I'm practicing. I'm working at the mental part just as much as the physical. Can that count as my goal? :)

Possibly also finding a partner who can spot for me and give feedback. They say you lift better when you have a spotter. I hate interrupting other people. I always ask someone to spot for weights I can't rep twice and everyone has been really nice and helpful cause our gym is awesome, but it would be nice to have a partner.

So if you're saying mid 30s is old, what does that make my age? *gets popcorn*

Sure isn't. I started to actually care anything about my health from this perspective when I turned 40. Welcome!!
