I’m still lifting but not at the gym until the numbers drop quite a bit. I’m doing what I can in my garage with limited weights.

I also have to get my elbow situation fixed. It’s probably time to go see a specialist and get started on PT to get it back to normal. It feels like a bad case of tennis elbow or something... there are worse things but, it’s not pleasant.

Saw this and thought of you, don't know if it's helpful or not, but I really like this guys stuff:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI5wIxHdLgg

I finally bit the bullet and got vaccine #1 on Friday. It took all of 5 minutes to start feeling like shit. Not a fun weekend and really not excited for shot #2. That's supposed to actually be the bad one.

I will always go to the gym. Always. So I figured if I need to try to prevent losing out on race training I prolly should be vaxed.

Thanks! Obviously, I wish I had started sooner, but I've heard many people talk about their 30s and 40s as their prime which is good cause I really didn't enjoy my 20s. :)

I said something to see where to place your numbers. Your numbers are impressive for a woman period but the later you were to the game the more impressive they are.

Curious what the others say but I personally don’t think a spotter really matters.

It can help you push out another rep or two but… is that really that significant in training outcomes?

Maybe if you were a total wimp about lifting it might but most of the time you should still be able to get yourself in that RPE range without one.
Because one really doesn’t have to ride the failure line that close that often.

Again curious as to others thoughts. I lift but I’m an ultrarunner first so I’m rarely in the gym to push the 1RMs.

Thanks!! Your compliments are much appreciated. :humble:

There's a girl at my gym who looks 14 but I think is around 18. She competes and actually has some junior world records for her age. Her stats are up on the wall and they're intimidatingly impressive. She's a nice kid, I've talked to her a couple times. The stats on the wall for my group are blank, so I tell my brother I'm breaking the record every week.

I think the benefit is more psychological. I am finding that I lift better with spotters when I work up the courage to ask someone. Several guys have commented after spotting that 'the strength is there to lift heavier'. I got trapped under the bar a few times early on and it felt horrifying. I'm afraid of hurting my wrists and hands again too. (they're small. I can wear kid size gloves.)

I'll leave it at that so people who know what they're talking about may chime in, just one more question:
    Ever run the JFK?

Hey, live it up and claim your territory.

I'm such a feminist. Most of my "lifting bros" are women. I find women are very tough and bring a different level of discipline to the sport. I like to surround myself with that energy.

Covid really threw a wrench in the big ultra races that have lotteries. Badwater, Hardrock, Western States etc. Those races already were dealing with issues on how to deal with their lotteries to make it a more fair system but the cancelled races and back log made it much worse. I honestly think all races need to give 100% automatic entry to women. Let the men fight the lottery. Not enough women do it, and those who do are more likely to finish and complete the distance. Some of the major 100s usually at least 50% of men end up not finishing. Most women complete the distances.

Rambling at this point but I love seeing women succeed in male dominated sports (read: sports).

I have not run JFK. This year hopefully will be my first 50M. Not sure how many more actual races I will go for. I more have my eyes set on things like double traversing the grand cayon, doing the kalalau trail out and back etc. those kinds of things.

Thanks, I think I’ve seen this video but, I’ll check it out again to make sure.

No shots for this guy but, to each their own. That’s one of the great benefits of being an American, we have the “freedom” to choose what’s best for our own bodies.

    AMEN HALLELUJAH!

Made the choice to do it, my smell and taste is all screwball, I'd like to do what I can to make that from getting worse since technically my future business rides on my palate.

I feel like in the lifting world I'm starting to reach the old point where people start hinting that shit is only downhill from here. But in the running world fitness doesn't actually really start to diminish until about 45 for women and 55 for men.

But strength sports pretty sure peak performance is like 35.

In that case, I better PR soon. :benchpress:

On the bright side, my deadlift has also returned to my early 2021 pre-injury numbers. I lifted 215 this morning. Felt pretty good. :D

Gurl I’m closin in on you, watch out. Monday I hit 215 for 3x10 post knee surgery.

Which sounds bad ass until you find out I had surgery 2 years ago… :anonymous:.

After my 50M in July I think it would be cool to focus on hittin at least 3 full plates. And bench over 225 for reps again.

3x10 is still very different than 1 rep.

Knee surgery sounds like a big deal. Isn't the recovery time alone months?

Depends on what was done. Simple scopes are a few weeks recovery.

I had a hypermobile/detached meniscus that had to be re-secured from my ACL to my LCL. Post-op protocols the same as an ACL repair so about 18 months to complete return to baseline. I was running after 4 months though. Ran my first ultra 8 months later.

Still have VMO activation issues in that quad and I struggle with stairs. After about 6-8 steps I start limping. I can climb mountains and run trails with pretty decent vertical gain, but put a set of steps in front of me and apparently that's where the knee draws the line LOL.

Unfortunately it has not hurt my ability to do squats. I was really hoping for an excuse to never do those again.
