Chest day. PRed my dumbell bench press at 85s for 4. I don't know why but I can do 85s but can't hit 170 on barbell bench press. I don't know if it's a mental thing or what.

I'm sure part of it is mental, but not 100%. Some of it is just how your body is built. I'm the opposite - I can put up a lot more with a bar than I can support with dumbells, but my problem is my shoulders have had a lot of traumatic injuries. As a result, my shoulders can't provide the stability needed for me to do an equal amount on a dumbell as a bar. Just keeping working and you'll get there!

I read this thread a lot, but this is my first post on it. I lift 5x a week, but I never have a workout partner so I have no idea about my max, etc. Because of my shoulder injuries, it's not exactly the safest thing for me to 1 rep as much as I can at the risk of having another dislocation. At my peak, I was putting up about 285 5x on a bench, but that's about the limit my shoulders can handle. I consider myself strong, but not overly strong for my size, but I focus on keeping myself as healthy as I can without letting the gym dominate my life (just not my personality). I am a "gainer", so cardio is more important for me as far as maintaing a healthy weight, even though I dislike it.

Kudos to you guys who take this stuff as seriously as you do! I enjoy reading your workouts and suggestions, and have incorporated a lot of them. Today is leg day, and I am not looking forward to it.

I don't have a workout partner either so on some lifts I can't go as heavy as I want. I do my best with my known limitations.

Usually thats what it comes down to bro, mind games... I can do 185 no spot but I can bench 245 consecutively just having my buddy there to grab the bar if I fail... maybe try using the smith machine

Thanks, man. I definitely won't have as much input as others, but it will be nice to see what everyone else is up to and post any gains I make, etc.

Right now, coming back from yet another shoulder dislocation, so I took about 6 weeks off of weights and focused on "rehab" exercises. End result - about 50 lbs down on bench, 30 lbs on shoulder press, and not nearly the stamina on any lift. Trying to work myself back slowly and safely, rather than try and put up big numbers and hurt myself again.

BTW, I am 6'1" and about 235 lbs. 46 in chest, 36 in waist. No clue on BF, but it's too high. My goal is to be about 215-220 and putting up the same weight on all lifts, and running a 10k in less than 55 minutes. Balanced fitness is my goal.

Ill tell you from experience. If you want to lift big AND run... that's going to be tough... you almost want to train for one or the other.... I train for my military test once a year, so no heavy lifts just body weight and running... then after I pass its back to my regular diet then weights with HIIT .... just depends on your goals though

Agree, if I was going for big lift #s, then I wouldn't want to run. I'm going for solid numbers given my body weight. I'm a big dude with a big chest and broad shoulders - I'm never going to run 6 minute miles again. My "healthy" weight is about that 215-220, so basically I want to be able to bench about 20 lbs more than my BW 10-12x, while having the cardio to do 10k runs @ 9 minute pace, etc. I actually want to slim down, not bulk up like most of you guys on here. Most of my sets are 10-15 reps. Occasionally I'll do 5 rep sets, but those are rare. Hopefully I can achieve this?

ectomorph checking in (again?). Im on week two of lifting, eating big. Im at 5'11", 145-148lbs with my goal around 160-165. Ive half assed trying to build muscle over the last year but Im 100% on board right now.

The problem has been that I love to run. Trail running is a blast and reduces a shit ton of stress for me. but I keep getting injuries from it, achilies tendonitis mostly. So Im putting running on the back burner for a while and focusing on getting stronger and putting on some lean muscle and hopefully come spring time that extra strength and stabilization will help to keep me from getting injured while running.

I dont post in this thread very often but I do lurk for motivation :spy: haha
I will update again in a few weeks on my progress.

That's why every Olympic runner looks like they haven't eaten in about a month. That's also why Jay Cutler's cardio is walking to his mailbox lol

Anything is achievable... light weight high reps will get you toned and cut up.. Like I said it just depends on what you want. I can bench 245 and I weigh 170, but I haven't done any cardio since July haha.... Just make sure you keep your calories up if you're going to run and lift or youll kill your muscle.

nice to see you man, I love seeing people post on here! But damn you sure are a skinny mini haha Im 5'10 @ 170 and I still feel small. If you have any questions a lot of us can help!

Lies you have 0 gains ;)

I tried eating 300 grams of protein today, rather than 200. I'm eating so freaking much. I just finished meal 5 and have 2 more to go and only 3 hrs until bed. Needless to say, my schedule needs a little work lol

100 g, so about 1/3 of my protein intake. I'm making good gains, but I'm always tweaking and trying new stuff, so instead of doing 1 g per lb of body weight, I'm going up to 1.5 g per lb of body weight and trying it out for a month or so to see if I get mo' gainnnnz!

If youre shooting for big numbers... You might wanna try 5x5. From experience it was awesome. I ended up plateauing but it will get your strength up to better than average numbers. I actually haven't really gotten any stronger either. My strength is straight 5x5 results. 5x a week seems a little much for strength but thats just me. If it works go for it!

Im opposite of you. Benching is alright, but as soon as I hit dumbbell bench, I question if I even lift.

I think next week Im going to go back to recording my food... I've been doing the same thing but its always good to check yourself every once in awhile... because at the moment I couldnt tell you how much protein ive had today I know its just the right amount... counting cals gets tedious sometimes and feels like a job so every so often I stop and just listen to my body

random and what not just wanted to throw my feelings out there

I used to track my calories, carbs, and protein, but after I got everything to where I could guesstimate, I stopped counting calories and carbs. I still count my protein intake every day though. Most of the time, I keep it in my head, but sometimes I write it down.
