I do love my Sigma :D so Im partial to saying sell it and pick up that Sigma.

My next purchase will be a new camera most likely. I really want a 50D or a 40D whichever is fine, I just really need to up my FPS and grain quality. If not a new body I will definately look into getting the Tamron 17-55 f/2.8. I've heard a lot of good things about that lens.

I am looking to get my stepdaughter a DSLR for Christmas. She has been using my old Olympus DSLR and has been taking some great shots. I want to get her something for herself to explore the hobby. I would like to keep he budget under $900 with 2 lenses, if possible.

My Dad has the Canon t3i and loves it, but he is hardly an expert.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

I've got Nikon's D3100, (you can get it in a two lens kit if you want for around $900) I really like the camera and it has been really easy to learn on

John, I have a Canon Rebel XS, its a step below the T2i and T3i. I love it. 10 Megapixel, 3 frames per second. I have a lot of goodies on mine as well, gripped, and some good lenses. Before I bought my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 I would say I had about $800 in it. And had 3 lenses. Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Canon 50mm f/1.8 and a Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6. But I recently upgraded the Tamron to the Sigma. But I have heard a lot of good things about the T2i.

Prices can be seen below vvv

    http://www.nextag.com/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T2I-718809258/prices-html

Whatever you get, if you go with Canon, I would suggest getting one with the kit lens (18-55 f/3.5-5.6), and then for about $160 or if you look around and don't mind to buy used get a Canon 50mm MarkII it is a great lens (known as the Nifty 50). If you get one just body only I suggest still getting the Nifty 50 and have you and your daughter save a little money and look into getting a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (I'm looking at getting that lens sometime shortly) it can be had for about $350 used.

If you go with Nikon then you will have to ask the other guys about that cause I use Canon and know little about Nikon. In deciding which, Canon or Nikon, have your daughter feel both and see which one she is more comfortable with. Thats basically how I chose. If one were better than the other one of them would probably be out of business, words of Jake's vvv from this thread, I made this thread when I was looking into getting a new camera, they helped a lot. Take a look around in there and read some. Got some really good info in there. (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/photography/121224-need-new-camera-suggestions-please.html).
