    A good starting point is ISO 200 I think it was, may have been 100. F/11 1/125 sec. Use a 300mm if you have it and crop to the moon in post. Focus manually.

    okay soooo

    this will be the first time im shooting racing trucks, now ive shot some monster trucks in the past and i understand the need for a quick shutter action. But all my shooting was indoors......

    looking for some tips, also a good tripod with a good side to side motion

    filters maybes lens

    im thinking of taking the following down south with me

    18-135 efs, a large variety of filters
    10-22. ndf and uv filters
    70-300 vrII, polarizing, ndf and uv

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
    You'll have lots of light so use a fast fast shutter speed. Like 1/400-1/250 The 18-135 I think will be the most useful depending on how far away from the track you are of course.

    Also I'd just go handheld. Tripod will just be a pain for panning shots and you'll be shooting at such fast shutter speeds you won't need a tripod.

    Here you go Shay. Nikon 55-300 f/4.5-5.6G on a tripod at 300mm.

    Camera at ISO 200 F/11 1/125 sec in manual setting. I let the camera focus this time. I usually focus manually.

    Awesome! So do you think I should take Tony's advice and get the 70-200 he recommended to me or get something like the one you used? Like I really want one that is 300mm, but I'm not sure. FX format.

    Lol I'm actually trading this one in on the 70-200 2.8 and then I'll get a teleconverter and bump it up more. On my crop sensor it will look like about 320mm w/o teleconverter.

    Also if you want one of these just check out www.keh.com and get a used one. They run between 200-350.
