What he said. You’d be amazed at how much flex there is.

I'm curious to see if my tent will clear my prinsu rack well enough. It's like 91 inches long and 55.5 inches wide

Id say your cap bars look higher then the prinsu will sit so you should clear.

Side question. I have a 8 ft ARB awning that I have been running on my Sherpa Crows Nest cap rack and I finally got my cab rack to match. I was thinking about mounting the awning as far apart as I can on both cab and cap. Anyone thinking this will work and have enough twist or will it snap? The reason I want to is ARB suggest it be mounted no further then 800 mm from either end and I am 900mm plus on both ends. I haven't had any issue with that yet but just thinking of other ways to mount it, plus then I can move it further forward. Right now the way its mounted it sticks off the back of the truck a bit and looks kinds weird to me.

Thats a fact. Here is my truck with a fair amount of flex going, and there is almost a 1" difference. The racks line up perfect on flat ground.

If anyone is wondering why they flex it's because the bed is bolted directly to the frame whereas the cab is mounted on rubber bushings. Not to mention all the twisting and flexing of the frame itself. The first time I put a cap on my truck I could see it wiggling all around in the rearview mirror. I thought I hadn't bolted it down well enough.

Well come to think about it also There have been plenty of times I have been driving down a hwy, usually happens on concrete, I can see my bed and topper bouncing up and down at a different rhythm then my cab. That alone would probably wreck anything attached to both. Side note how do I get my truck to stop boucing like a whale down the highways?

Here's to hoping my tent will have tall enough mounting bars for a good bit of space above the prinsu rack. I'd think so considering cbi makes the rack I ordered.

Thanks for the great info, everyone. Honestly I never would have thought they would move independently of eachother, however now that I think about it, it does makes sense.

I think I'm still going to look for a rack for the cab that "matches" the bed shell rack for aesthetic reasons and additional storage, despite not mounting anything to both of them at the same time. If anyone has any recommendations for that, would be appreciated!

Sherpa makes tent mounts to attach on the side of a 8020 bar. They come in 1/2 inch and 1 inch. They will help you clear the front rack.

Need y'all's help find some more pics.

A while back, a user posted their CVT Shasta Extended with their awning folded over for use on short bed bars:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-with-a-truck-box.536651/page-2#post-17441576

Does anyone else have pics or video, etc, showing the same thing? Do all of their annexes do that? Does any other company have an annex with that built in?

My tent is on a trailer, and my ROAM annex is too tall with no way to shorten in.

FSR makes annexes for the high Country 55 in and 80in and you can select the height. I bought the annex for my High Country 55 in medium height category (58 - 70 in). As the name implies, the only difference is the width of the annex (55 in vs. 80 in). They do not have the roll up functionality built in but you may be good to just go with a medium height annex from FSR and not worry about rolling it.

Interesting, that might be an option if I can't find what I'm looking for.

I'd like to still climb down into the annex the traditional way.

My Tepui/Thule tent is designed pretty much the same way. I can't speak to it's ability to shorten the annex as I haven't actually used it yet.

Custom, only one ever designed and built interiors, heavily welded frame, all sharp metal turned bed rack and a roof top I made for $75. Power pedal, injen intake system, cat delete, summit racing brake proportioning valve controlled on the fly, slightly adjusted or perhaps unrecognizable ECM, built in under bed storage, high clearance rear built with 1/4" on a 6011 1/8" rod at 120 amps, 360 degrees of led light, a PA and CB, on board air, on board propane (to cook food), on board fridge made from an old red bull fridge found on some guys man cave built into the storage cubby under the back seat, imported tranny and clutch from a good friend over in Europe to replace this aisin junk we get, combined 32 gallons fuel capacity, 18 5 gallons of water storage, built in gun locker under RTT, and all it cost was to hear the wife ramble on about upset neighbors at 2 in the morning every night since I bought that damn truck..
Decided to build my own last summer and slowly but surely, it's getting there. Making a few adjustments here and there and fitting in a few things that I haven't seen on any RTT to speak of. Did a test run with it twice and it's not too bad. Hoping to have it done before spring. All in all, with fabric it cost about $150ish. With out the fabric, just rods, paint and Copenhagen around the low 30s. Tobacco is getting expensive...
