Thats a good idea. We would sleep better without the kids rolling around pushing, kicking and bumping us all night.

I didn't know that. I mean, I knew they looked similar...

I have CVT Mt. Mckinley, and there is enough room in the top for four easily and gear storage and/or changing room in the annex. I have had great service from Bobby at CVT, He's always ready to help you out with the small or big questions. I have some pictures of are setup in this thread.

Careful some of the brand fan boys get all crazy with that comment. But I agree they all get the job done. Some just cost more than others. They all have their little difference but in the end they all do the same thing. As soon as one comes with a robot that makes me breakfast and opens my beer ill switch to that company. :D

Hell mine doesn't even have a brand on it and it looks just like a CVT or Tepui among other things. haha, I saved a ton of money not giving a shit about what brand was on the outside of my tent, as long as it works, and keeps me warm, dry and comfortable I'm happy.

    This.

However, I wouldn't say "pick the cheapest" but pick one that meets your needs and comes from a company that will be around for a while.

Mine is tepui but I researched all brands for a while. Found some local dealers for several brands and went to look at them and bought the tepui. They hooked me up for sure too so that helped my decision.

Hey, I posted this in my build thread but I thought I'd post up here to get some feedback on my bedrack design. I'm going to mount a pair of Maxtrax on the supports on one side and a shovel or hi-lift on the other side.

For those of you who have RTTs mounted to a bed rack, what are your likes/dislikes/must-haves??

    Here's my proposed design:
Bird's-eye view (the white part is the bed space, the dark gray rectangle is the RTT outline):

Side view from the tailgate looking forward (white area is the top of the bed rails to the top of the Cab):

Great idea, but no dealers for CVT or Tepui in my area. :(

To be honest, the RTT doesn't weight a lot so your setup should work just fine man.

I dont particularly dislike anything about my setup in particular, theres some small things i need to fix, but overall that should work well

This is definitely true. But to give you an idea of why I say this, when I bought my tent, I didn't think the Tepui guys would install it. But they did. They also helped out when I had some issues with the ladder and how it contacts the bottom of the tent. I'm pretty sure if I needed more help, they'd be there.

Tepui is also big on community which is nice to see too.

looks like you're trying to achieve basically the same thing I was - keep the tent tucked behind the cab as much as possible.
I don't have the exact measurements on my rack but they look roughly the same. I'd be happy to get the measurements if you'd like, I think I still have the drawing on my work computer. I would suggest making it a little wider to lessen the angle of the supports or add in some gussets where the legs and platform meet.
This was one version of mine, I simplified it a bit

awesome setups in here! thanks, guys!

MTgirl, how wide is the your rack? ;)

My original version was 56" long x 42" wide, but the weight was going to be ~80 lbs and that seemed excessive...

With the angle iron set inside the bedrails, that should keep the legs from flexing out. At least in mind, it will haha...

You're not going to need to have that many cross-pieces, unless you weigh about 500 Lbs.. or are using 1/16" wall tube.. Just a suggestion to help you save on some weight.

Honestly - I hate racks made from square tube. Not trying to sound like as ass - just giving my opinion. I'd take a look at Schedule 40 pipe or HREW tubing.. Pipe benders or friends/shops with pipe benders are a hell of a lot easier to locate than shops with tubing benders (yes, they're different)... I'd imagine that your costs for both pipe or tubing (not DOM) will bring you very close, if not even lower than the equivalent setup in square tube..

    Just something to think about..
