I noticed quite a few references to Subaru. is this the second choice or daily driver of many? is there corporate connection to Toyota?

I know an appliance repair guy who is in with a group that "hops 'em up" to go places and speeds they were never designed for, but am just curious about the references.

Toyota owns a percentage of Fuji Heavy Industries- the Toyota 86/ Subaru BRZ is a shared platform that is produced by Subaru & badged Toyota.

I know the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ are basically the same car. As far as corporate connections beyond that, I couldn't tell you.

I do like Subarus, though. Those boxer engines are just flat-out better than inline or V engines ;).

Yes and yes. Never going back to a car without AWD after driving my Impreza. Spark plugs on a boxer are more time consuming to change than an inline-4, but timing belt is easier. I have a build/worklog thread on it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-other-black-sheep-subaru-impreza-2-5-na.187465/

Toyota owns about 17% of FHI, and some prev-gen Camrys were built in the Subaru plant in Indiana.

We've had various Subarus since 1973 - my wife and I currently drive Outbacks. Living in northeast PA and having a house on a dirt road demands a car that will go through almost anything...and Subarus do. Lynn's Dad bought his first in 1969 and, if you add all of them her and my family have owned since then we are well over 50.

Very. Lynn and I have had 10 over the years. One had a head gasket replaced at 80,000 miles. Other than that, we had nothing but normal maintenance on them. Our families' experience was the same - no major issues.

This was our first new car - the first year Subaru introduced a 4WD into the US, I think. 1976, 4-speed. You had to shift it manually into 4WD but didn't need to get out to lock out the hubs.

One of my favorite cars of all time was the SVX. Such an awesome styled vehicle.
