I just wanted to post pics of the connector for the brake lights for my setup.
I have a 2011 standard cab 2.7 no tow package.
After searching forever for the connector posted in the beginning of this thread, I finally realized that mine does not have that connector.
The blue wire for the brake switch was on this connector. Hope it might save someone else from searching for something that is not there.

Great info!!! I do have a question.

it said for 2nd gen v6 tacoma max weight 6500lb and max tongue weight of 650lb.
Is there a way to bump up the tongue weight?
what will a set of air bags do to help in any way?(tongue or max weight ect)
i as because im looking to buy a trailer that has a tongue weight of 500lb i believe and i know i want to ad some weight to the front of the trailer ( building a bathroom in the V of a V nose trailer) and maybe some propane tanks on the front

You'll need airbags, after market leafs (Deave, Dakar, etc) or rebuilt leafs just to hold the 650 as it is without increasing it. My stock 06 would be damn near on the bump stops with 400 lbs of wood pellets in the bed even with a 3" AAL lift. I got the springs rebuilt by a local company to give 3" of lift, plus an extra inch to compensate for the plate steel bumper that came later. I forgot I had 200lbs of pellets in the bed that day, and now it takes about 800lbs to sit level. :D

Yeah, it's disappointing for sure. Toyota has a TSB out for sagging leafs I think, and they have another one coming out for leafs breaking and potentially puncturing the fuel tank. For that one they're replacing with a 4-leaf pack. Might be worth looking into before you spend money to fix them. I'm actually looking at getting reimbursed the $500 once Toyota starts replacing springs under the breaking recall.

Maybe? :notsure: I don't know anyone that has them. Can you load up 700lbs of something to see? Pellets, rock salt, ATV, whatever and see what it does.

Yup, what OZ said below. The 05-09 has a CRC (Corrosive Rust Compound) campaign going on. If the frame is solid they clean and undercoat. If they find any holes, the whole frame gets replaced. I had both fuel tank straps replaced on mine (one rusted through), and the frame is on backorder. Wait time is something like 3-4 months they said. Plenty of time to look around for what I want to trade it for.

This is good, very good advice and summary of what to keep in mind when getting ready to tow.

Never ever overestimate your capabilities and the truck's capabilities. Better be safe.

Send a PM to Maverick, the original OP to this thread. He should be able to restore the link and point you in the right direction... It has been a while since I read the whole thread...

Have a 99 Tacoma sr5, wondering what would be a max safe weight for a travel trailer. Have aftermarket hitch and it's manual trans. Looking to pick one up this weekend. Not familiar with towing and weights on campers. If anyone can give me any info would be appreciated.
