I just bought my Tacoma a few weeks ago, and the axle wrap was pretty bad. It turns out the U-Bolts were around 70ft lbs, so I tightened them up to 90 and it is WAY better. It is still there, but significantly less than what it was before. I would say 37lbs is not even close to correct.

I still think that's a typo and it should be 73, which still seems light for a u-bolt to the axle. I think the Land Cruiser manual specs 90 ft/lb

Since I've seen this debated and it wasn't much work to find. Lubed vs dry Torque values.

I may have discovered a discrepnancy re the tie rod end nut.
In the 5th photo, the spec shows 67ft lbs.
In the chart at the end of the photos, it shows 41ft lbs.
I find conflicting info on the web; some call 67; some 41. Same conflict wtih the 4Runner. I think I'll go with 41. I tightened them at 35 and that felt right, plus it lines up perfectly with the cotter pin.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
The Tie-Rod End (sub assembly) to Steering knuckle (castle nut w/ cotter pin) is 67 ft-lbs for 4WD & Pre-Runners and 36 ft-lbs for 2WD.

The 41-ft.lbs is in reference to the "locking nut" that tightens against the Tie-Rod "End" on the the Tie-Rod itself.

I still use it frequently too!

I do recommend downloading the .PDF to be accessed offline and use the fancy Table of Contents to quickly get to the section you need.

:gossip: someone already sticky'd it too ;)
