    "Had a national ballistics fingerprinting system been in place, my son's life might have been spared."

    How is this a logical statement when they can only compare the "ballistic fingerprints" after the the gun has been fired? No computer data base is going to stop someone from getting shot. The most it can do is link murders to the gun that committed them, and not necessarily the person who committed the crime either. And according to the studies it doesn't even do that well.
