The TRDOR is basically the same truck? Hardly...The TRD models are much nicer vehicles all around; that is not to detract from the lesser expensive model.

I bought mine for many of the same reasons. The truck was cheap if you can call it that. And so were the Tacoma World upgrades I did to mine. I got what I wanted for a lot less of what it would have cost me if I bought a SR5. Im happy and have $4000 I didnt have to spend.

    2017 Tacoma SR ACab (2wd/auto/daily - don't hate)
I think I like my '17 SR. I got a magnetic gray, access cab, auto, pw, pdl, bedliner/bed mat, fancy exhaust tip, side steps (? on a 2wd), 4 banger in 2wd. To me, it looks great. I installed cruise myself, which really just magnified the issues with the tranny. I understand that the tranny is just doing what it's told while in cruise, and focuses on keeping the set speed over all else. When driven without cruise, the tranny works fine. It's hard to barely need a truck, but be a car guy when using the fast pedal on the highway...which is every time I leave my place that is in the middle of nowhere. I am trying to come around to waiting around though (Thanks GTI!). I would have probably bought a 4x4 if they had one...and a manual for proper flogging to achieve speed/slowing. To those contemplating an access cab...get keyless entry (no lock on ps door) and understand that loading the rear portion of the cab in a parking lot is quite a task with the suicide door blocking your cart/ease of access. Sounds prissy, but it has become a little bit of a sore spot with me. I have to search out parking spots that I feel will have room to load when I get back to the truck. On the upside, the truck looks great, the ride is much better than my stock '16 Wrangler, and it's pretty manageable for daily driving in the size arena. I got the truck for $23k, which I thought was cheap after looking at a Canyon and Sierra. The dealer stated they lost a little on the sale, but that the maintenance is where they make their real money as a company. He told me that if my door locking system went out, it would be over a grand to fix (I only have two keys, no fobs or keyless entry.). Same goes for my radio. The jury is out still on whether it's staying. I still find myself looking at older vehicles and lusting after the simple, predictable things in life as these newer vehicles continue to lose their soul. I can turn a wrench, and take direction from a good manual or video so I may just pocket some cash from a sale and go get an old 4 runner...or a wagon/hatchback. I came up in a Toyota family. I prefer Hondas, but their truck is a joke. I lust after European cars, but tire of their strict needs and expensive tastes. If this is the biggest issue I face in life, then I got it pretty darn good.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Good for you -- I appreciate seeing a person knowing what they can spend (now) and then going after it without going overboard. I have a couple bits (advice from a old fart) for you:
    1. The "suicide" doors -- you learn to live/cope with it -I have had these since I had my 99 and (replacement from Ford) 02 F150.
When I was looking at the Toyotas last year -- I thought I would love all that space "back-there" and the "normal" doors. Then my son and wife asked me how many times I have had more than one other person in the truck? I got another AC/extended cab -plus they look better IMHO.

    2. Honda TRUCK: -- no --that ain't a "truck" --its a very nice car that they (Honda) hung a bed on. Nice -but NOT a Truck!
    3. Your radio idea: -- I just swapped up to the Premium radio/head unit, and I love it. Found a take off here on TW, and sold my old one here as well. Both sales went great -thanks to good honest friends on this website.
Issues with swap: Wiring between my SR5 and the new radio -they were identical in every way. May be different with your SR? XM antenna -- if you have it --then I would bet you are good to go --if not?
The dash fitment: Big one here-- there is definitely a different dash opening plate for the premium and non premium radios. Expensive from Toyota, but get the right part number and "google-shop". You also may want to shop salvage yards? for that part --be careful -- Toyota lists 8 different variations on this part, and you have to buy the whole assy, not just the opening part -PIA . I went to my dealer first and they were honest with me and told me to look elsewhere as their prices were higher than others on the net.
    4. I have been so pleasantly surprised and happy with this website. If there is anything you need to find out, there is usually pictures and help from someone. You still have to sift through it -- but you can -for the most part -get more/better info here than from your dealer.
Enjoy your truck -- and life!! happy new year!!

They're 17's...Factory wheels/tires off of a Tacoma Sport...I bought them from a private seller...Wheels, tires and TPMS sensors as a package...

I was going one of two routes, based on which wheels I found first...

    1. If I found TRD Offroad wheels, I was going to go with the Predator side-steps.
    2. If I found the Sport wheels, I was going to go with the Gen2 running boards.

As you can see, I ended up with #2.

SR has the best looking grille. If I ever get a truck I think it would be the one I would track down to replace the cheese grater.

Can't get the MT, only five color options and no rear locking axle. Otherwise I wouldn't have an issue with it, I want a pretty basic truck... with a stick and in Quicksand.

I've never used a locker... probably because I've never had one... but I've never needed it. 4X4 and the basics is all I want or need. If I was going to buy new I'd seriously consider the SR.

I look at the FauxBroPro (FBP?) grille every now and then and nix it when I look at the front of my truck. SR grille looks great as is. Too bad Toyota killed the 5MT for 2018. Maybe look for a 2017 2.7/5MT? Air lockers are a grand.
