My MT WRX got stolen a few years ago--parked on the street across from my house. It was recovered a couple of weeks later badly damaged.

Thieves had jimmied the rear door open with a crowbar and hotwired the starter--even glued a toggle switch onto the center console. There were a lot of tools for breaking and entering in the car when found.

I had a previous car (Z4--also MT) taken from my driveway while idling for <5" while I went inside to lock up. That impressed me that thieves roam through the neighborhood continuously looking for an easy take. It was recovered a week later undamaged.

It is said that most car theft gangs come from countries that still have a lot of manual transmissions--Central America and Eastern Europe. I don't know if this is true.

I also had a friend whose Audi S4 was stolen from his garage while he was away--loaded onto a flatbed truck. Experienced thieves can get a vehicle in 5-10". If they want it--they will get it.

Some - Will list later - has lift and new wheels and rubber
Holy Crappolie - I have not laughed so hard at a set of comments in a long time.

Thanks for a few tips on keeping the truck parked when it should be parked and all the friggin' funny stuff.

Yes the Ladies of Canada are strikingly beautiful.

    The Moose are big.

And there is a beaver on every nickel. Unless you find the odd one with a hare on it.

Oh ya - Colour is really spelt with a U in it up here - its because the winters are cold and we used to write letters and novels to pass the time, so we add letters to words to make the task take longer.

Our speed limit is actually in Moose/Beaver. We dumped the Metric System at the last election.

I’ve only had smart key cars since 2012. I’ll never go back.

    How far is enough?

Back in 1993, my Toyota van was stolen by them using a key. They had two different locks set on that key. It was still in the ignition when I picked the van up at the tow yard. Actually I was glad they used a key, at least I didn't have to pay for an ignition, just had to buy new middle and rear seats!

The early 80's to early 90's Toyotas were easily started with a quality pair of barber scissors as a key. And most other vehicles were as simple as a wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive side of the ignition coil. Then a quick tug of the steering column to break the steering lock. So I've heard.:anonymous:

Modified the level of gas in the tank
My 85 4Runner I could start the truck with the key then slide the key out and drive away. Weak tumblers
