Why are you hollering? How does one protect the catalytic converter from theft anyways?

If it might get stolen, you might consider it.

    And stop yelling.

I had to make sure I was being heard...
I was told by the Toyota dealer that there's a place that will install some rebar to prevent tweakers from easily ripping it off. Then I started reading, and I found conflicting articles. Some say I would still need it, some say Toyota has fixed the problem

When they designed the 3rd Gen the Cat was moved higher up to help deter theft.

Well if there's a will there's a way. Is this a common thing in your area? I've never heard of anyone I know having a catalytic converter stolen.

They didn't move them up to deter theft. They moved them up so they would light off quicker when the truck is first started. It's a concession to cold start emissions.

If you want to prevent theft then weld the flanges.

They don't unbolt the converters around here when they steal them. They just cut the pipe with either an exhaust cutter or a cordless SawzAll (which they probably stole from Home Depot). Damn tweakers.

I'm not sure if it's super common, but my friend in the service department said his cousin had his stolen in a Costco parking lot, and that it only took a couple minutes to rip off. But he had a 2015 I believe. But car thefts in general are common here in Stockton

I remember years ago, when cat theft was going haywire, some people were installing these:

    http://www.catclamp.com/

Or something similar to that. I don't know how effective they are.

But since then, more and more junk yards have been requiring ID, vehicle reg, etc. to deter thefts. Seems like it's died down quite a bit in my area.

i welded on some eyelets and pad-locked mine to the exhaust rotation bracket.....should provide some pretty decent protection from theft.
