Let's hope that the government and their newly enacted NDAA don't hear about this...

The last time I remember we still had the right to bear arms, and just because she drew a picture does not give them a right to investigate if there are guns in the home. absolute absurdity.

The article is describing an incident in Canada. Not familiar with the gun laws, so can't really say too much about the specific incident.

However, in general, no person (other than a felon or other reasonably prohibited from having a gun) should ever be arrested or harassed for simply owning a gun, whatever the trigger for that arrest or harassment. This would obviously include a gun seen at some point by a child or children in the home.

Not familar with the gun laws in Canadia, but it's pretty damn shocking that a picture is grounds for an arrest. So much trouble could have been avoided by just asking the man if he owned a firearm or for permission to search his home...

    stock, for now
i remember when I was in elementary school, I wrote some kind of paper on an assignment, and it included having all of my dads guns in my own collection at some point. WELL..when the teacher read that, she made me bring it home to show my parents and have them sign it, and bring it back to my teacher the next day. My dad looked at it, and signed it, and told me to just keep quiet about it. He wasn't arrested and strip searched over that.. We are not felons, just law abiding citizens who work hard for everything. This is just another reason why the bleeding hearts are going overboard.

Well for one, this was in Canada. So relax America. Not your country. That being said, the problem isn't the schools. It's the zero tolerance policies lawyers, politicians and insurance companies have forced schools to adopt, lest the teachers, administrators and counselors find themselves personally held liable .. destroying their lives, and their careers.

My wife's a teacher. If she sees anything suspicious, she's required to report it to adminsitration, which is required to report it to social services and/or law enforcement. Because if they don't, and it turns out to be that one in a million case that goes horrifically wrong and the kid is maimed or dies, the powers that be will destroy the school staff. You can even be held liable as an accessory for failing to report, and do time. Such is the nature of life in the post Columbine world of education.

Handgun laws are extremly strict. Nobody here ownes them. Your only aloud to take them directly to and from the range. If your caught taking a different street other then the direct one to the range you could face jail time.

I honsetly can renember the last non gang shooting here. Every so often gang memebers will get wacked off but nobody else usually gets shot here.

Have to keep them in a safe. Seriously when people get tasered here it gets reported on the news for the next 2 months.

This dosent supprise me at all. At any school if you drew a gun you would be checked out.

agree w/ a lot of what you said there.... but it still doesn't make it any less absurd (the events being described in the OP) that it happened in canada, ...in fact you make the point, that there are heavy-handed statist policies being enforced in skrools right here in the usa... i'm reminded of a recent event in one of the states here (was it MA or NJ???), a little boy (6 yrs old?) who was so excited about his new cub scout camping utility tool (it had a fold out knife, fork, etc.) he brought it to the lunchroom - then bam! he got suspended from skrool, ..."zero tolerance", ...zero common sense, zero liberty, zero fun...

Yep. Kids have been suspended for giving their friend with a headache a Tylenol too. Even carrying an inhaler and failing to first check in with the front office or school nurse can get you in trouble too. And then there are those schools that banned hugging ... HUGGING! ... because of concerns over inapprorpiate touching.

I know it's crazy. But in our hyper litigious world where even the semblance of guilt can empty one's bank account, and destroy one's career, options are sadly limited. Nobody functions well in a world where everybody is just trying to avoid getting sued.
