They put in 0W-20 (SYN)- when I always get 5W-30 (Conventional) 2005 Tacoma- Is this a major issue?

The single VVT-i was back specced to 5w-20 per a TSB. At least for the 2006-2007 GR engine models. It still recommends you use what the oil cap says to use.

I use straight 30 in my old John Deere (1987 model)

But all my newer mowers get 10w-30.
Here is the snippet from the Kawasaki engine manual.

I use my mowers in the winter to mulch leaves. So I went with a lower winter viscosity.

Was I the only one that tried to get the “regular” oil to climb the gears just as high by spinning the wheel as fast as you possibly could, all while trying not to draw too attention to yourself or tear the display up?

Generally, lower viscosity oils perform better in colder climates and higher viscosity oils in hotter weather.

I've personally never seen any info on the single VVT-i 1GR being back spec'd for 0w20. As far as I know it's only been 5w30. And because TGMO is conventional, Toyota plays it safe and assumes all 5w30 in conventional (which they know is not true), and sticks to a 5k OCI for safe measure.

I said 5w20 not 0w-20. I posted the TSB in page one of this post.

That TSB does say GR series. But I wonder if it mainly pertained to the 2GR and 3GR. Subsequent TSBs clearly list the single VVT-i 1GR as 5w30

The subsequent TSB posted by 6gear only shows it was for 2010 and up which is when the 1GR-FE engine was updated to have dual VTTi. The TSB I posted shows that all 2006-2007 GR series engines can be back specced to 5w20 unless it specified certain engines like it did in the 0w20

The dual VVT-i 1GR, despite the same name, shares very little in common with the single VVT-i aside from the 60° block and bore. It was introduced on 0w20 from it's debut. Regardless of what may or may not be in a TSB I've never seen a single VVT-i 1GR with anything other than 5w30 recommendation in an owner's manual.

And 6gears link only shows the Tacoma wirh 5w30
