We have a crew of 3 in my neighborhood stealing catalytic converters in broad daylight. (caught on camera) They are using a cordless sawzall and cutting them out. They hit 1 Tacoma,1 Sequoia, and 1 Honda Passport in the same parking lot the other day. I don't know what they are getting for these but it's worth the risk to them I guess. Pisses me off!

They can sell them to recycling plants for the metal inside. I forgot what kind it is but they can get a lot for it. Recycling centers have gotten more strict in who they take converters from though, like taking recording drivers license numbers and stuff

I had some copper left over from a plumbing job that I took to the recycling center and they took my plate # and my license # as well.

I'm glad recycling centers are getting the information of these people. I'm sure thieves are more clever than that tho. Either have fake IDs or they have some other buyer.

The more reputable recycling centers are getting personal information. Unfortunately there are others who are doing cash deals and not getting any information.

Oh I didn't realize what part of the undercarriage that was aimed at. I assume you're referring to the wings on the skid plate?

The picture was taken from the driver side. The plate is removable and mounts to a couple factory threaded holes in the frame and the transmission cross member. It's made to where a saw can't get in up front (the two "wings") and the back of the cats and mounting bolts aren't accessable due to a couple pieces of metal welded in place. I used bolts that have a special head to where a wrench or socket won't work. The whole thing has plenty of space for air circulation for the extreme heat the cats put out and the senser wires are wrapped with additional heat retardent material. I've had it on for a few years now with no problems...
