I don't know if Notary can be a friend. It was just a thought for fun. I love game of the deal with a dealer. I can spend all day screwing with them and wasting their time instead of the other way around. Not at all afraid of confrontation if it could be called that. I am patient and can wait out the best of them. Mental game of "Chicken".

As for the WE OWE sheet, I've only ever purchased two brand new vehicles (both Toyotas) and only have one thing negotiated into a deal.
On my '97 Taco everything went exactly as I worked it and completely to my liking (beyond normal).

The '16 Corrola was a tad different. Being that most of our dealers in my area are of the "One Price" type, negotiation is really limited as far as the price of the car goes. Even so, their price was lower than all of the traditional Toyota dealers in the surrounding area. Absolutely no crap packages added on and marked up by the dealer. They actually gave me more for my used SUV than I would have been able to sell it for myself, and I am absolutely not one for trading in a vehicle as part of sale. It just worked out better for me doing so on this transaction. So, the only WE OWE item we worked into the deal was lifetime oil changes at any Toyota dealer. We are still under the 2 year Toyota Care so we'll see how this works out long term.

My next new car purchase will be yet another Toyota (Taco), but I am not in any hurry at all. My CU of 25 years is ready to give me loan me what I need (if needed by then). I've driven all the 2016-2017 models I am interested in that are available to date. Ruled out options / features I don't want, or need. Clarified what options / features I absolutely want and why. Even down to the two colors I want and why. Been watching all my local dealers inventory and tracking the VIN numbers of the vehicles that match my criteria to see how long they stay on the lot.

With not being in a hurry, I am very willing to wait if I have to order the one I want, when I'm ready to purchase.

Yes, and also some places rate used vs new differently. My CU doesn't care about used or new but the rate depends on model year as well as credit score and length of the loan. Everything else the same, the rate jumps a half a point between a 2016-18MY and a 2015MY. They'll also discount the rate a quarter point if you have a high enough equity stake.

... at near usurious rates of course. Same CU above, rate sheet from September says 740+ score buying a 2008 vehicle pays 4.25% while a below 640 score pays 14.55%... :O

The real WTF here is that anyone with kids would knowingly commit to seven years working OT three Saturdays a month for anything other than feeding/clothing/educating those children.

My Tacoma came from a dealer that includes free lifetime powertrain warranty. Didn't pay anything extra for it and it has no special stipulations like oil changes at that specific dealer. It's pretty well documented as to T&Cs. We'll see if it's worth anything more than the paper it's written on. :)

You're doing the right thing taking your time. If/when you do ever decide to pull the trigger consider the technique I use when applicable: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...your-2017-tacoma.444691/page-17#post-13205880

It's complicated. Lets just leave it at 'the kids are ok'. (not because of dad mind you)

LOL Good point. I forget that there are some parents who are are better "in absentia", unfortunate as that may be.

OP. Dont stress out because you overpaid. Try not to think about it. You have an awesome truck that will last years. 5 years from now you wont even remember the extra loot you laid down for the truck.

We think the same way. I dont like the feeling of getting taken advantage of, especially when it comes to money situations. You'll get over it... hopefully sooner rather then later!

I don't think I was taken advantage of. The numbers were in front of me the whole time. I just didn't slow down to consider the option of purchasing those add ons myself and I could've played the dealer game a little better. That's what this thread is about...exploring all of your options and being patient enough to get what you want at the absolute best and most reasonable price. In the end (trade included), I walked away with the truck for almost 4K cheaper than MSRP. Point is I could've saved myself another $2-$3k, and I'll take that lesson with me but I'm happy with it.

OP - You can look at it like this...the dealer provided you additional service by adding the stuff so you don't have to. That's worth something.

    Now go out and play!!!!!!

I've pondered this same question since I purchased my 2015 earlier this year. I convinced myself that I didn't really need all the bells and whisles. Example my last three vehicles had sunroofs and heated seats. Paid for them but never used them. So I didn't seek out a 4x4 (I don't off road so still believe this was money saved) and didn't really need TRD (should have gotten would have increased resale value). Truck had 24,000 miles, side steps and a Undercover SE already on it. Got extended warranty! Paid around $29,000 out the door. Think I could have gotten a 4x4 or TRD for that price after doing even more research. Who the flip knows!!!!! Done deal know! Guy I bought it from asked my son how he liked his new truck. So I guess I will get a new one in a few years. LOL!

:notsure: I asked the sales manager about it and he said there isnt. I read all the fees and all the paperwork. I really thought you avoid a $900 destination/shipping fee by buying on the lot rather than ordering...wth?

I wouldn't be surprised if half the shit they say is B.S.

Oh well, I like my truck anyways. Especially that my diffs are dry and tranny wasn't low on fluid. :mudding:

I've been told you get a much better deal working it online. The online guys work off of units not commission. Disclaimer - This of course could be 100% wrong! My truck was used. First used vichicle I've purchased in my true adult life and was hard to work up online. My 2011 Honda Pilot I worked that deal online and save $5,000. It was the end of the month too and had to drive 4 hours one way to pick up but, well worth it!
