The only thing I can really think of is that damn ticking noise, I have to agree with Poly on that one! Sometimes I notice it more then other times, but it's really aggravating and makes me feel like my motor is gonna take a s*** on me. Oh, and maybe disc brakes all the way around as well just for the fact they are very easy to do yourself. Very happy otherwise with my truck.

Yeah that ticking noise from the engine really bothers me too. Pretty noticeable to me, but the other Taco in my family, an 07, makes the same noise too, so I guess it's "normal"

better quality interior materials. it just seems like the interior gets sratches, abrasions, stains, and blemishes way too easy.

honestly i expected build quality buying my 1st toyota, not that its terrible, but my blazer had tougher materials, i swear i could run my key down the side of the truck and not even see a scratch, night and day difference in paint quality....plus 4lo seem'd geared lower in the blazer, it would pull like a bit**

I agree with ya- there's just way too much damn plastic on the 2nd gens. My buddy's first gen can clear 33" tires much better than my 2nd gen can and with much less rubbing. He also only has to change out one brake line in the rear while us 2nd gens need to change out 2. The ticking noise WAS a bother but now I just see it as my Tacoma doing it's thing.

X2, man... x2 all the way. I feel they should have expected almost everyone to want larger tires; They could have cut the fenders a tad higher and popped out the flares just a little more on both the front and rear.

And yeah- the leaf springs are shit.

12v outlet in or behind compartment between front seats.

as well as others already mentioned:
Rear diff. breather elevated and two way (like the front).
    Illuminated 4WD dial.
Better tires than the BFG rugged fails.

I would like a Navi option but if nothing else a bigger display for the Sat and Bluetooth purposes. As already mentioned the lighted 4x4 switch but would actually like a 4x4 lever.

No ticking sound on my '10 (and it is parked in the garage, so would be easy to hear if it did). I am also lucky that my 3 leaf springs don't allow my suspension to bottom off roading with over 600 pounds of cargo, either (my '05 did).

The ticking is a common "problem" for a lot of people. I have it, I only notice it with the windows down when I'm driving next to a wall/fence, stopped at a light by myself, or just next to the truck as it'd idling after reaching operating temps.

And I use synthetic oil, so i doubt oil has much to with it?

I don't think mcdowell was equating one with the other. 1. Ticking and 2. Came with conventional oil. ;)

Tell BMW or Harley that automotive sound signature isn't important. They spend millions on resonance and engine sound modification. The post is about things that Toyota should have done better - this is definitely one of them.

It's very noticeable to me, and if it wasn't noticeable to others as well I'm sure they wouldn't 1.mention it as something they would change if they could 2. bother "bitching" about it for no reason 3. ask for somebody to post a rude comment about something that the thread was about in the first place...That's just my opinion though. If you didn't want to hear ppl "bitch" about things they would want to change if they could, maybe you shouldv'e stayed off the thread, make sense? I think so. I have had many vehicles and never had the problem with this noise in the past (certainly not with a newer vehicle), and when I'm told Toyota has one of the most refined motors out there it seems it would be a little quieter. With that said, I love my truck & very happy that I bought it, but agree with others that it's something I'd rather not be there. I do however AGREE with the rear suspension & drivetrain (shifting late at a stop sign/red light) problem as things to improve on as well.

If its a common thing that people have why do some people have it and some dont? If some do and some dont then it must not be a regular noise cause i would think the ones without it is the way it supposed to be? screw it im taking it in:D
