Thinking about installing the 5100's???

So I'm pretty new to the whole tacoma world and just have a few questions. If I get the 5100's installed do I need to change out all 4 and what would be the optimal height setting for them?? Should I also do the AAL?

 

You only need the fronts to accomplish the lift, but if you want a better overall ride quality, get all 4 shocks.

If you want to lift the back with an AAL, 2.5 up front and 1.5" in back will level you. 1.75" up front and 1.5" out back will keep close to factory rake.

with the 2.5 and aal will i be able to fit 265-75-16 tires without any issues?

 

You should be able to fit those without a lift. I had 265/70-17's on mine prior to lift, which is the same size tire minus rim size...fit fine no rubbing. I do recommend the 5100's though as they ride really nice.

 

With the 2.5 up front, you can fit 285/75/16 if you are willing to do some trimming and get wheel spacers.

 

WHAT IS MORE COMMON 265 OR 285 AND WITH SPACERS DO THE TIRES STICK OUT AND IS TRIMMING HARD

 

I think it depends on the tire. My buddy had to trim out the plastic bumps that hang out in the front wheel wells, lose the front mud flaps, and trim a bit of the fender flare. He also had to chop off some of his front cab mounts. This is with a 3" OME lift (which is actually 2.7/ 2.8" high) with Dick Cepek DC-2's and Dick Cepek radial F-C's. He's already got a bunch of chips in his paint behind the front wheels from rocks getting kicked up. This is why I'm going with 265's.

 

265 75?

 

265/75-16 is the same size tire as a 265/70-17, just the rim size differs.

 

ANY ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS WITH 2.5 IN THE FRONT AND AAL IN REAR?

 

I have 2.6" in the front, and a 2" AAL, and I just barely got my alignment back to where it was prior to the lift. The highest they could get my caster was 2.0, which is where it was prior. Drives great. My lift isn't just 5100's though, I have an Eibach lift spring with the 5100's at 0.85. Pics in my gallery.

Depending on how much lift in the rear, you'll HAVE to get 5100's series for the back because they (stock shocks) won't be long enough.....

 

I don't want to argue with what you say. I had 285s on my 07 prerunner. 3" spacer in front. Nothing in back and no wheel spacer, no trimming. I beat the hell out of it offroad and never had anything damaged.

 

No rubbing, even at full lock?

Surprised you weren't rubbing the uca's with that setup.
