I love my first gen. But all of a sudden and I cant explain it. I find myself wanting a second gen. Have any of you guys/girls traded up? Curious if you miss the first gen or not. Talk me into it. Or out of it. Thanks so much.:thumbsup:

I have had both...and currently have both once again. They are very different...drive it and see which you like better.

For the record, alot of dudes have gone back to the first gen.

I thought I would really miss my 2000 AC but with all the room in the 2nd gen DC and having the v6, I'm glad I did it. I do miss my little truck but this one is working out pretty good for me.

I never owned a 1st gen, but I had been in many thanks to friends and customers...

I wouldn't trade my 2nd gen for a first gen, but might possibly pick up a 1st gen as a "beater car"

i'm kind of in the same boat as you. i love my 1st gen b/c it feels like a real truck, but i love the look of the 2nd gen. however, after riding in a few of them, it feels like i'm riding in a big sedan.

i'll probably end up in a dc 2nd gen eventually b/c i know my ac won't cut it as a family truck.

Been in both. Prefer the size and orientation of the 2nd gen more. It's not that much bigger for parking and what not, but interior it's just that little bit more spaced out to make it comfortable. 1st gens make me feel like I'm driving around in my 91 Corolla.

Didn't realize the 1st gens had a belt instead of a chain.

    Suckahs!

I test drive 1st Gen with the 3.4L v6 DC Prerunner. The 3.4L seemed slow compared to my 4.0L v6... Also the bed in the 1st Gen seems shallow compared to 2nd Gen.

I had an 01 extra cab 3.4 manual 4x4.. then the 2nd Gens came out like a year later. traded In for a new 06.. love the extra power and room, but miss having a paid off truck. Lol. In the end, glad I did it and would do It again. But to each their own. Good luck!

I was in same situation, I had 2002 DCSB Prerunner mint with 27,000 miles and after extended research between 2011-12's, possible new generation, etc. I pulled the plug and bought 2012 DCSB Prerunner. Part of my decision was made by good price on 02 and great price on 2102 as well as the fact that every time I saw new truck I wanted one. For me I much prefer the ride, increased size, comfort, looks, and features of the 12. I still initially had buyer's remorse. I have had my truck for almost 3 months now and am now pleased I made switch as the more I drive my tacoma the more I like it. I would certainly recommend several test drives, extended if possible. I would keep in mind there are a lot of tacomas to buy, don't get pressured in to buying. Spouse much prefers new truck, if I change my mind I feel I can still sell and come out OK. One thing I would do different is purchase new truck in different color as my colors were very similiar.

Test drive for sure, they all drive a little differently once used. Make sure you don't get one with the driveline vibration problems from 3 to 25 mph or possibly at 55-60, a lot of them have this and Toyota is still working on a fix (we hope).
