That's a reasonable consideration. The resale on these trucks is great. I bought my OR in 2012 for $31K and just sold it last month for $24K. That's almost 80% of its value after 6 years. Now I'm in a 4Runner!

Thats a huge pro for me right now. My truck is almost 10 years old, and has over 100,000. It won’t be worth much in a few years and I would really like to put its equity into something like a Tacoma that I can get a ton of use out of, and have really good resale 5 or 6 years down the road.

Why not a first Gen so you aren’t out 10k plus mod money? I take it you are seeking to finance?

I don’t necessarily want to go from a 2010 truck to something older. And we do 20 down and finance 10.

Well some would argue FirstGen BestGen, so that’s why I asked. If you are capable of putting a nice chunk down I would hunt for a TRDOR with a TRD supercharger installed that will compliment your coming mods, but it’s your money.

I couldn’t agree with you more.
Although the new motors put out more power on the top, you need the power down low to get things moving.

So I check out the silver 2014 TRDOR tonight. To my surprise, the thing had more dents and scratches than I could have imagined. Torn and stained seats, and made all sorts of clunky rattling noises while test driving. And they called it a certified pre-owned... lol. I don’t know I think maybe the gray interior with the silver paint was just too much gray for me... or it could have been the overall condition. Needless to say I couldn’t pull the trigger yet... still looking and open to suggestions.

What is the consensus on the 4.0 vs the 3.5? I have a good friend who is a mechanic at Toyota and says to steer clear of the new 3.5, saying they are oil-leaking pieces of garbage and that the 4.0 is vastly superior. What say you Tacomaworld?

I’d say that the 3.5 is one of the best made engines in the world. It was on wards top ten a couple times however I don’t consider it appropriate for my truck. Not enough bottom end torque for me.

The interior on those is soooo much nicer than the 2nd gen IMO. Do you have any extra features inside or is it base?
