    Happy new year
I’m looking to possibly move to Hawaii, the big island. The reason, my partner has Fronto-Temporal dimensia. Doctors say she has less then a year before issues get bad. I would like her to spend that time in a beautiful place. (We are not old, lol)
I have sussed out some houses I can afford.
I am a carpenter by trade, but can do just about anything.
    Questions I have;
    I have my truck, a Subi, and 2 Ducati’s
    Honestly not much more
is It better to sell and buy on the island, shipping will cost 13k
Just would like to have a general conversation about the idea
    Thanks

Goodluck...I know Hawaiian's love their tacos there! I assume the housing market is pretty high just like everywhere else.

For the truck, Subi, and 2 Ducs....move it to Hawaii, dont sell and buy again there.

My in-laws are on Oahu. We visit waaaay to often (until covid). I have my reservations about living FT on Hawaii but your reason for moving there is different from what mine would be.

What are your worries and concerns about moving to the Big Island? I'll give you my 3rd party non-tourist and non-local opinion based on my experiences since marrying into a family thats generations deep there. I'm CA through and through....and HI isnt similar nor should it be.

No worries, just trying to figure out. Not familiar with the areas, will have to buy a house via pictures. Just asking questions, and looking for any assistance I can get.

Yes...because every remote worker has realized that they can live anywhere. Might as well choose "paradise". Housing market booom.

I've been keeping a pulse on the HI/Oahu real estate market for the last 10 years.

What area on the Big Isle are you looking at? Hilo, Kona, Waimea.
The locations are totally different from each other in weather and style of living.

If you move to Hawaii make sure your Tacoma is 2wd and lifted 12” with 31” tires

I'll second this...move your vehicles here, at least the Tacoma. The prices for used Tacomas over here are borderline comical. A quick search of FB marketplace for any of the islands will confirm that quickly. I swear that Hawaii is the Tacoma (and 4Runner) capital of the world, though...lol

I live here (Oahu), but I am military and not a local so consider any of my comments with that in mind. This is my second time living here, and I have about 8 years total time here so far with a little bit more to go. The Big Island is definitely beautiful (as all the islands are), and the variety of climate/terrain on the Big Island makes it pretty special (IMO). Wouldn't mind living there myself! PM me if you have any specific questions about living in Hawaii, I'd be happy to answer them...good luck!

Nice. I swear every other vehicle here is either a Tacoma or a T4R.

I will add that if you wanted to buy new here, Toyota of Hawaii doesn't mark up their vehicles. Plan on waiting 3-5 months for what you want, though...there is kind of a waiting list, as practically all Tacomas that come here are already spoken for. Toyota here is actually not part of Toyota USA (CONUS).

Just my opinion, I think you should sell the Subi and the Ducati’s. Keep the truck and ship it here. One - more money in your pocket. Two - less money for shipping. Three - depending how long you’re planning to live here, you’d have to pay registration on all those vehicles, so you’d save on that.
The truck would definitely be most useful on Big Island as there are much more places to go off-roading than here, on Oahu. And your partner can enjoy the beautiful places not every tourist gets to see.
But you may want to buy another car that’s good on gas as gas prices are pretty high right now.

Also if you plan to live further from Hilo, I definitely recommend buying a gun. The further u go out the more chronics there are.
