Next may I was thinking of driving to Kansas City for the nascar race. I live on the eastern side of WV about 20mins from interstate 70.

Looking for interesting places to stop, good BBQ to eat etc. Im considering taking a southerly route to avoid Illinois (bad gun laws) or I could just drive slow through the state lol

no camping for me, ill be staying at hotels I figured ill make a lot of stops and see some sights might take 2 days to get there

TN Nashville to Memphis is a wasteland, but so is IL. Southern OH, east of 71 is not bad.

Air Force Museum in Dayton OH area is spectacular and free, just off I70

The Shawshank Prison is open for self guided tours north of Columbus Ohio

Best BBQ ribs in the world are in Murphysboro IL. 17th Street Bar & Grill. #truth

Mammoth Cave in KY is impressive.

Johnson's Shut-Ins, Taum Sauk Mountain, Big Spring, Elephant Rocks are good in Southern MO.

Saint Joe State park in MO is a fun place to play with a 4x4. Giant sand washes, allow you to play off road even if you are not an off-roader. Just fun to drive around an old mining area. (I think you need a flag)

Visit Superman in Metropolis IL or Popeye in Chester IL.

Take your Taco on a small ferry to cross the Mississippi, visit the Native American mounds in the area.

Find the Bald Knob Cross of Peace in Southern IL for the chance to see 7 states from one vantage point (well that's what they say)

    Indianapolis 500 Museum

Generally speaking OH, IN & IL are pretty boring on I70

    Have fun!

I-70 in Missouri is often pretty beat up. Kansas City barbecue is pretty overrated (speaking as someone who lived in Texas for 38 years and now in Kansas for 20 years), but Q39 in KC is darned good.

ill check out that place for BBQ. I've been to Joes bbq (I could have the name wrong) when I was in KC last year.

I plan to be tired of BBQ after this trip lol

Absolutely support above with regard to Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. Largest USAF museum there is, and you could spend a day there. They recently added the original Memphis Belle B17 as well.

KC my old stumpn ground for 20 years. Check out the Nelson down at the Plaza Gates BBQ is not too bad the Riverfront got some cool Bars with Live Jazz Lawrence Ks is about 30 Min. away from the track it got a nice Brewery down town. Whatever you do stay away from the Airport (KCI) it is boring as hell. The is a free mag called the KC Pitch is gives you an idea what is going on in town and a pretty good listing for Bars with LIVE music.

If you looking for some cheap Ladies to keep you Company at night check for the big tower.:D:D

I prefer Arthur Bryant’s or Jack Stacks for KC BBQ.
I’ve driven I70 from PA to KS many times. Pretty boring ride. MO roads are horrible.

I'd go with Joe's KC (used to be Oklahoma Joe's) I have had all the other places as well and this was hands down the best. If you hit it just right timing wise you can go to Irish fest while you're there and that's a pretty good time too

Was wondering what they changed Oklahoma Joe's to.

And if you time it right swinging through STL, the TW crowd here is legit.
