Oh there will be some mods all right
I've had a few vehicles in my day but this 4Runner sure seems like a winner. ( Previous vehicles: https://www.tundras.com/threads/what-did-you-drive-before-the-tundra.10522/page-5#post-2065349 ) Good looks, kick-ass powertrain, creature comforts, what more could a fella want? With my last few vehicles I've had a plan for them when it comes to modding and this one is no different. My previous vehicle, the Tacoma, I found myself leaning more and more towards seeing how big of bumps/ruts/holes I could hit at speed with the accompanying mods to make that possible. That was fun, but it was expensive, and it also was hard on the vehicle. My plan for the 4Runner is to drive more responsibly and really plan to take care of it rather than living fast and wild with it. It's still going to get a lift and wheels and tires and lights and all the other goodies but I'm not going to spend as much on the suspension because I will no longer drive like I'm in a competition to see who can set the fastest time through a rough stretch of road.

Pictures from the day I brought it home

So, the wheels and tires have already been picked out. They will be ordered as soon as I get the money from the sale of the topper from my Tacoma. I'm doing something way different from normal, I'm going to try running an all-terrain tire that has the mountain snowflake symbol instead of doing dedicated winter tires. My back-up plan is to buy some blizzaks to throw on the 20s that came on the 4Runner just in case the all-terrains don't work out. I also have narrowed down what lift I am getting to two options. I'm either going to go with a variation of a Bilstein 5100 lift or I am going to go with one of the Eibach lifts. I was extremely happy with the Eibach suspension on my tundra, but I know lots of people on Tacoma world had issues with it clunking and topping out, so I need to see how it treated people with 4runners before I make a decision.

Thank you! I never really knew the nightshade edition existed but once I saw it I fell in love. I don't have any grand plans like full armor and long travel but I definitely plan to make it my own.

Scored the first like on your first post. It’s a nicer vehicle you have now. Wasn’t a big fan of 3rd gen power train. Your back in 2nd gen territory just vvti

So far I have already ordered floor mats, (tuxmats of course, if you're not running tuxmats you're doing it wrong) ditch light mounts and the accompanying wiring harness and switch, (unfortunately I'm going to have to go back to using a remote instead of having them tied in to the high beams due to how the high beams function on my 4runner.)

It is 100% a nicer vehicle, that's for sure!
Both are very nice and also very expensive lol. The only options for the suspension are what I posted above. After I did some research tonight I'm leaning towards the Eibach suspension, specifically the 2.0 coilover kit. The 2.0s I had on my tundra did better than I thought a 2.0 could do with a big truck like that and the reviews seem pretty positive on the 4Runner forums.

I would love some magical harness. On my Tacoma it was just using a fuse tap which was pretty cool but it seems like that's not an option on the 4Runner because of several reasons. From what I gather the daytime running light is still a halogen bulb and to keep it from being too bright it receives a bunch of rapid electrical pulses to keep it dimmed and according to a few people who tried the fuse tap route, when you have your daytime running lights on apparently the rapid pulsing would randomly trigger their ditch lights. I like having daytime running lights on and I definitely don't want to be sending random pulses from my Rigids lol.

Somehow missed this post. Lol! I'm almost 30 now so I have to be more mature. No more finding my bump stops over and over again. Now I get to be a normal person who only touches them once in awhile on accident. I need to not jump railroad tracks anymore either. Not that I would ever actually do anything like that.

I really like the nightshade trim as well. AWD is killer but I don’t like chrome.

You can swap the halogen headlights for LED (I make a harness) and get quad high beams then use 9011 HIR bulbs. If you want to. A trigger for high beams only (minus DRL) is possible with an add on harness (I just listed it yesterday) or possibly integrated if you wanted an all in one to feed a light bar.

The PWM for DRL is active only when low beams are not, so a simple relay solves for separation of duties.
