KDSS is available on the Off-road and ORP 4Runner. But, no V8. The GX is definitely a nicer overall vehicle.

This is a huge negative for me.

Deciding factor for me. Premium fuel + no CarPlay + used vehicle = Taco > GX

22+ GX has carplay. But I don't need it. Beatsonic sells a retrofit kit direct or through Lexus but have no desire for it. The screen is way too low and don't want to take my eyes that far off the road to look at it. Between the Garmin, phone and 2nd phone to run OBD Fusion (I'm old and hate idiot lights) carplay is redundant.

You can run 87 if you want, I do not but a lot of people do. My MPG is the same in the GX or a little better as it was for 11 years in the Taco with 87 but now I have a V8 with some balls to it. The KCLV on Fusion is Knock Correction Learning Value if you are going to run 87. But 91 is ethanol free and better gas mileage and performance at the end of the day.

That was at my shooting and hunting buddy's house this Spring picking him up to shoot sporting clays. He still has the FJ but the gas tank straps rusted out on this wifes 1st gen Tundra and fell off. After riding in the GX he bought a Lexus IS350 that takes 91 to replace it. He calls it smiles per gallon. If you can't afford premium fuel then you likely are in the wrong vehicle. And that includes the new Land Cruisers. The new Land Cruisers take 91 as well as most Lexus performance engines.

The 80% more articulation on the GX compared to the T4R is with both having KDSS. The GX is a Land Cruiser Prado 150 to the rest of the world. Suspension is different, but similar, between all of them including the Tacoma.

Great knowledge base video that applies to Tacos as well and where he discusses and measures the difference in articulation between the GX and T4R both with KDSS. These are mechanical KDSS systems, the new Land Cruiser which is the Prado 250 uses Electronic KDSS.

This is incorrect. The 80% refers to the difference in front articulation between a non KDSS 4Runner and a GX.

Here's the video that actually discusses KDSS. Fast forward to 4:18 for articulation results:

    https://youtu.be/Ueshf401B0k?si=G6YJP8FVtcxLJuXk

The GX is still an excellent vehicle. But, the frame and suspension components are identical to the 4Runner.

Believe it ot not, I actually know a little bit about 4Runners and KDSS.

Fun fact: if you look closely, you'll actually see @LarryDangerfield in my back seat. :D

It depends on where you live. Premium is generally ethanol free in rural areas in Wisconsin, but not in the Milwaukee area.

Performance is debatable. If the vehicle isn't designed to use premium, you might not gain anything. Some will say that the ECU will eventually make adjustments to take advantage of the higher octane. The compression on the 1GR is definitely high enough to utilize higher octane.
