Probably no coincidence that red impulse pearl reminds me of candy apple red from years past. Metal flake really pops in the light. Frosty sez howdy from Oklahoma, in Boomer Sooner red!

Thanks @Wsidr1 that thread appears to be dedicated to Sunfire Red but will post there too. Hope to see any Gen1 pics in this thread, will have to dig out old pics of my previous Gen1 tacos.

Bought this 01 V6 SR5 4WD auto back in 07 and drove it all over Utah New / Mexico on vacations. Stupidly traded it for a new 2010 4 dr 4WD DC V6 SR5 auto taco. Great truck, wish I still had it.

I just completed this task, what a PITA. don't forget under the AC/heat control knobs, pop out the panel, there's 2 screws under there. I broke one of my screw mounts taking off the large center panel, but was lucky and able to repair it. Good luck and have fun. If you can find it there are some good videos to watch before doing this. In fact, here's a link for you.

Impulse Red Pearl is, IMO, the best color for a 1st Gen and was only available from '01-'04.

Mine when I first got it in 2006:

Of course, after 10 years of TacomaWorld, a lot different now :

@Digiratus stunning when new, still looks great IMO. My paint is a bit faded but not too bad. It's gonna get worse before I'm done.

@CrippledOldMan thanks for the link, better explanation than youtube vids I have looked at. It's on the short list.

@z71bowhunter that is a sweet ride! My first gen1 was almost identical except the purple of that era and didn't have those nice wheels. Bought new when stationed in CA, great truck never hiccupped.

@PennSilverTaco thanks but it's got a few dings not clearly visible at 6 ft and the paint has some fade. Driver, no queen.

Thread caused me to dig out some old vacation pics that include previous Gen 1. Loved Mr. Magoo, shoulda kept him. Better condition than current one however that was 10 years ago.

Are you serious? I've been wanting a 2008 - 2015 Tacoma for a while now. What is it that you miss the most? I was honestly under the impression that the next gens just did everything better (especially with lower ball joints and safety standards).

@crazytacoman my post might have been misleading. Traded silver 1st gen extra cab for a new silver 2010 2nd gen double cab and prefer the first gen smaller / lighter / firmer truck feeling over the more car like 2nd gen. I prefer the 2001 - 2004 body curves over the 2005 - 2015 body. Am a fan of the newer safety tech, but 2016 - ? styling looks like a parody of itself. My impulse red 1st gen had gotten more eyeballs / comments in 8 days than my silver 2nd gen did in 8 years. I like first gens and cannot lie. :)

My next Tacoma is definitely going to be a 6-lug; I love how interchangeable the wheels are!

I see now, and I have to agree with your thoughts on the styling. Thank you for replying
