    All good points.

Suspension is fine. Rides smooth. Unsure on the timing belt and water pump - was unable to read the sticker that gave that information. I can't be sure as to what the issue might be with power steering. It felt different than my truck. Exhaust is fine. Rust is not an issue. Tires are 80%.

I'm not by any means committed to buying it. I'll see what's wrong with it and shoot the dealer an offer if I'm comfortable with it. It doesn't hurt to give that a shot.

8 year old high mileage vehicle for $10,000? I sold my 10 year old 300,000 mile truck to my cousin for $75.00 and he drove it another 5 years.

    I would keep looking.

Good point, and no way I would pay $10,000.

How many more "no's" do you need?

Find a different truck. There are plenty out there, just travel a bit.

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and insight. I will not buy the vehicle.

Needs $1,000 in parts + Labor in order to pass inspection
That, along with the unknowns and high mileage make it a no go
The independent inspection facility I took it to said straight up not to buy it, and I agree with them.

Dealer did lower his price to $7,500 without me giving an offer.

Thanks again, and I know I made the right choice. I could have been impulsive and jumped on it, solely based on the fact that it is 4WD. But in this case that alone is not enough to make it worth it.

I would throw out an even 6k offer at them. Beats taking it all the way to the auction because they "cant" sell it. If you cant fix it up sell it at a profit on craigslist. If you have 6k i bet they would take it.

We just sold a 03 xtra cab 4wd with 92k on it i think it was for 16k

they also got a 04 double cab with 79k on it and had a price of 19k on it until found out it needs both cats so its going to auction

dealerships are not the best place to buy something like that, I think they are a bit overpriced compared to what you can get from individual. start checking like 200 miles away on CL and online. If you find a good deal its always worth a drive

I was under some serious time pressure to find mine, because a tree fell on my 93 daily driver and totalled it, and I didn't have another vehicle to use meantime. But I still refused to buy from a dealer; however, I used them for test drives and to get familiar with various models/features, and to help me assess private party asking prices.

Aside from prices, taxes, and general douchebaggery, one thing I hate about dealer vehicles is that they've always been detailed under the hood, which can hide clues and the truth. Granted, a private party can do the same, but usually a private party that goes to that trouble has pride of ownership and maint. records to back it up...

Oh, yeah, back on topic...so I found mine on craigslist 170 miles away, and it was dirty under the hood, and that provided some great clues that illustrated the vehicle's history and helped me make my decision. I also spent two hours inspecting it with a 2-page checklist, creeper, and jack. Helped me make the right decision.
