$600? These shafts can be found in the junkyard for pennies on the dollar. Whoever pays $600 for an OEM axle shaft, I have some waterfront property in arizona to sell them as well.

Yeah. I gave away four of them and a housing when I went with a 9.5" axle.

Yeah I'm exaggerating. It costs around $600 for a pair of +2 chromolys that Go with Total Chaos LT. On a separate note, how cheap are we talking for the rear shaft at a junkyard (especially if I pull it myself)? I need one bad :anonymous:
*sigh* I know  better take off the 33s. ;)

    Exactly!

I picked up a bunch of front OEM shafts from various wrecked tacomas for around $100 each. As for the rear axles, they are even cheaper, there's a guy by me selling a whole axle assembly with both shafts and the elocker diff for 250. Anybody who upgrades to bigger axles sells these wimpy 8" ring gears for cheap since that's what they are. Only problem with the rear is if it's got alot of miles you should change the rear bearing which is a pain in the ass and you need a press and a "SST" aka various scrap metal adapters on a 20 ton press.

Just keep an eye out on your local craigs list ads

How do you need a rear axle shaft? I've been pretty rough on my truck over the years and never once had trouble with a rear axle shaft. If anything the R&P will go before the shaft. The key is hitting trails slow, having double low in the transfer case really helps to control the throttle with larger tires :)

Hmmm. Okay! I have a press... I've also heard about bashing the shaft against the ground or something to get the bearing off... or maybe that was just the hub? Idk. I backed into my dads truck at like 3 mph when the truck was stock. Just angled my rear tire and bedside right into it. Ever since my stupid tire wobbles. If you rotate the hub with the tire off you can see the gap between the hub and axle get bigger and smaller... Almost positive its the shaft because if it was the hub the wheel wouldn't seat fully on it.

Oh and also, that picture has so much sex in it  What's your opinion on me just swapping to an FJ Transfer case for now? Like not going twin stick yet...

Yeah that may work but the press is much easier and you don't run the risk of damaging the splines.

If your stock transfer case is working fine there isn't much benefit to swapping in a stock FJ case. If you install the twin stick you could get a true 2-lo gear though. If you plan on doing it might as well do it once while everything is apart, twin sticking the case isn't too hard.

Ill just use the press then, I'm sure between me and my bud we can figure it out. Well I thought the two major benefits to FJ T-case is lower gearing and no electronic bullshit... Truthfully I know absolutely nada about twin sticks

The FJ case is the same ratio as the tacoma 2.57:1

It is a manual case but like I said if your current setup works then I wouldn't mess with it.

4.56 will put you almost EXACTLY back to stock assuming you had 3.73s and stock tires. I'd suggest 4.88s though especially if you are an auto, that little bit will help with some grunt.
