    I think you would snap a shaft. 37s would probably be the max on a stock rear axle / front diff.

    Everyone says that, but there are lots of 1985 pickups on 40's... I think the problem for us is lower gear sets for the front chunk.

    I plan on running 39s after I get a bigger axle and front race hubs

    I sheared an axle shaft about a month ago. Timken front unit bearing are holding up fine though

    I'm aware, since I've had a set on my truck for months as is discussed in this longass thread.

    I did 40"'s on an 84 regular cab, long bed, 22R. I put over 200,000 miles on it, most of that with the 40's.....and never broke a thing. Granted, I was easy on it, but it did some muddin' back then. Biggest problem I had then was that truck was kinda narrow for it's height. It would induce sphincter lock up with relative ease.

    My '84 started out on 35"'s. That lasted all of 2 months. Then I saw the first set of 40" "Gateway Gumbo Mudders" I'd ever seen to that stage in life. I HAD to get them on my truck. Lucky for me I know how to set up ring and pinions....'else I would have been driving to work in low range!

    Haha yeah I like how 40s on a 3000# 80s model single cab pickup, used mostly for muddin and otherwise babied, gives people in here confidence to run 40s on their 5000# + double cab 2nd gen truck with stock axles and use it for high speed or rock crawling activities. Strange perception ......
