Thoughts on BOSS? And how bad do they cut up the stock console?

Looking at these two double dins on Amazon, both seem to be a great deal with decent reviews.. Just wondering if anyone has experience good or bad.

As for features, I'm pretty easy. I like to stream Pandora thru bluetooth. DVD would be cool for roadtrips, but I've never had one. I'm not going for big boom boom, but a decent sounding system. I don't need nav, or sat, and I don't really care about hooking up the steering controls or backup cam.

thanks in advance! Next, I'll keep digging to find out what speakers would work best for one of these units, and what I can fit in the stock sub box behind the rear passenger seat.

I haven't had any experience with BOSS but I did have a double-DIN Kenwood in my old Toyota and had absolutely no issues with it.

Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood make up my top 3 recommended brands for head units

I wouldn't let anyone I know install Boss into anything they drive. Boss is one of the lowest end products you can buy.

There is a reason these are only $130. You get what you pay for.

Not good. I have a 2007 pioneer avic d3 I am removing in favor of a ipad in the dash. I'll sell it with dash kit, wired up and steering wheel controls for $250 shipped.

It has navigation as well. Shoot me a pm if your interested.

I had BOSS speakers, sub and amp in a car and I was pretty happy with them. Definitely not audiophile quality, but decent sounding and the price was right. I've never had one of their head units though.

Thanks, I will give it some thought. Google says that's a good unit. Do you have any pictures with the dash kit?

Visited the audio warehouse down the street, my boss has had them do 5 of his cars and they give him a great deal.

They wanted $100 for wire harness, $50 for the dash kit, and $88 for the install. Making a $270 Pioneer come out to $500. #nothanks

I'm sure you can find the wiring harness and dash kit online a lot cheaper. Install isn't really that hard either. It can be a pain to get the dash apart in some vehicles, but I'm sure if you're patient and follow a youtube video or something you could handle it.

I had a boss head unit in my old nissan hardbody, it was ok. It sounded fine and worked fine, but it always felt like the features were engineered to be "good enough". It was a 700 dollar truck though with no ac so for it it was good enough.

Boss has replaced Jensen as the lowest end stuff you can buy(though Jensen still sucks). Kenwood will serve you much better and have less glitches. That Kenwood doesn't look to have bluetooth though.

If you want a double din with a screen and bluetooth, spend $250+ and do it right with a Kenwood or Pioneer unit. If you just want bluetooth, you can get double din units for $150-180 without touchscreen from Alpine, Sony or Pioneer, or just get single din bluetooth and have a storage pocket below for about $100.

Console shouldn't be cut at all, don't let any installer do that, they should use a good adapter plate which will make a standard opening where your stock radio goes.

I went with the Kenwood DD371, BestBuy had it on sale for $279 but I found it on Newegg for $240. Getting it put in this weekend! Also went with the Scosche dash kit. Thanks for all the tips!

The kid I bought my first taco from went on and on about how he had installed bose speakers in it. The deck had fried so I couldn't hear how amazing they sounded. I was surprised as I know that the only way to put bose speakers in a car is to buy a set of home speakers and take them apart.

So I wasn't too shocked when I took the doors apart for paint and found he doesn't know Bose isn't spelled BOSS  But I bought the truck for $200 so they fit right in.
