I'd almost have to drill into my intake piping in order to get an accurate air temp

which I just realized means nothing anyways because my supercharger is before my TB. my air temp readings will be completely different then your guys. Though I should still be able to get a differential reading.

Well I'm going to bed, being on nights means I sleep during the day. If you guys haven't solved this by tonight I'll see what readings I can get.

The heated section is about 2" in length. And the air velocity is too fast for it to absorb any significant heat. Yes, it may pick up a couple degrees, but not enough to affect performance.

I'd be a little hestitant to do this mod on a Tacoma because of the electronic throttle control.
The coolant loop is there to warm the trottle body. The air flowing through the throttle combined with the pressure reduction caused by the throttle plate restriction can cool the airflow and throttle body far below the outside air temperature. CAIs and Joule-Thomson effect (look this up) cool the throttle body. Newer polymer intake manifolds don't conduct engine heat to offset this cooling. This can cause increased friction in the movement by contraction of the different throttle body materials. The electronic throttle does not have the torque of the older cable and spring systems to over come this.
As I mentioned in the CAI thread, there are other mechanisms at work other than "cold air is better".

Alrighty so I went out, warmed up my truck to operating temperatures and got measurements using a "FLUKE 68-IS InfraRed Thermometre.

Outside temp: -6C (All of these temps are in celcius)
Winds: A light breeze, nothing too bad, most of the air flow was coming from my fan.

I cleaned the surfaces on the tops and sides of the Throttle body and surrounding piping because I wanted to ensure a clear reading. Due to the air flow from the fan, I was still getting fluctuations around 4-5 degrees Celcius.

Front and Top of TB locations measured:
Far lower left of pic and moving piece by piece right

The forward facing section of the metal piping: 4.5 - 8.1 C
    Top of black metal piping: 4.1 - 5.8 C

Black boot area, front to back measured: 6.1 - 10.2 C

Top of TB itself: 18.3 C
For shits and giggles, the black electronic throttle control on the front of the TB measured only 3.2C

Top forward of black plastic intake manifold: 13.2 - 16.8 C
Top rear of black plastic intake manifold: 14.3 - 17.1 C
    [IMG]

    Back side of the TB:
    Back of plastic boot: 5.3-9.7C

Back of TB inside that hole looking thing in the middle: 32 C

TB Supply coolant line (The one perpendicular to the TB piping): 54C
TB Return coolant line (The one parrallel to the TB piping): 45 C

RPM's and Coolant temps according to torque:

    RPM's: 680-720 at Idle
Coolant was 84C when I started, but it read 85C when i finished.

I didn't have a second person with me to hold RPM's at 2k like you wanted ben but it shows about a 5-7C increase in temps across the board.

Now how does it compare to with the coolant shut off?

My guess, at cold ambient temp you see some increase since the whole intake is relatively warm with a high delta T to the incoming air. At high ambient temperature and high rpm the 5-7C pickup disappears.

would be a good thing to test, unfortunately I'd have to wait till a warm summer day to check

my bad. so with the coolant connected to the throttle body, there is a 5-7C increase than with the coolant lines cut off from it?
