Folks with good/correctly running 03-04's could do a perceived social service and take/post the OBD2 throttle position readings at (running) idle and and WOT. In addition note if the t-body throttle linkage is fully against the stop screw while at idle.
This might provide more of a baseline for the new sensor replacement folks.

Or it could turn out like wetting your pants in a dark suit...............you'll get a warm feeling but no one will notice.

Unfortunately with ETCS, the ECU uses the throttle to control idle. As such, it will vary by quite a bit based on engine parameters. Your best bet is to measure the resistance between pins 1-2 and 1-3 (or 4-2 and 4-3, or both) with the engine off and the throttle closed/open, then set the new throttle position as closely as you can to where the old one was. If someone has bought a new throttle body, they can also check this and post their results.

The repair manual values are pretty wide ranges and so aren't particularly useful to use in actually setting the position of the TPS.

I have a low mileage perfectly working TB in storage, when I get a chance I'll check it with my MM. But it maybe a while (working six twelves atm).

It may be useful if we post our readings here...

Hopefully they give me a day off soon before I have a conniption.

Or just read the good throttle position value fully closed and set the new one the same. This value is the end result of all the ECU thinking. This is going to be an evolving process'

All this is still going to be "ball park", might be all that's needed. The "gnats ass" level calibration/sync between TPS, APPS and actual TP is where the dark hole is and FSM specs for this are vague, non existent for TP values. A good starting place would be to match TPS and APPS values since they have the same value range. The FSM lists a resistance value range for one set of pins on the TPS, VC & E2. The APPS has pins 1-4.

Then of course there is just not that much adjustment in the TPS slots so good old trial and error might do fine.

And lastly the fellow who set it by "RPM" may also be on to something. This is alluded to in page 1 step D below, along with all that Toyota has to say about the t-body.

I know there's plenty of forum posts that go into this... but I was just curious of the symptoms any/all of you are experiencing to lead you to believing the throttle position sensor is the culprit?

    I guess I'll start.
Only at hwy speed, only during at least 100 mi of constantly moving travel, only during cruising on flat land (not common in N. AZ, so I don't experience it often) w/ cruise control enabled:
I'll feel a few MS of no pedal response. So quick it wouldn't be able to be done with a manual accelerator pedal. Like driving into a strong headwind @ hwy speed for a tenth or less of a second.

when i took out my TPS(beacuse it was hesitating) and then reinstalled it(was in this forum i think back it april about a possible solution). i tried adjusting(clocking) it to a good idle. original idleing was @ about 450-500 RPM(*note, i'm eyeballing this off my trucks tack and its weird how the notches are placed). i adjusted the TPS to about the 750-800 rpm notch and the truck ran great for these last few months, no hesitation, great acceleration, etc,. then over the last cople weeks it migrated back down to the 450-500 rpm notch. Looks like the ECM is doing its "learning mode thing" and adjusting the idle to its "best performance setting". This is how i see my trucks tack(wish i had a pic of it):

1ST NOTCH IS @ THE MARKED 0 RPM
    2Nd notch about 200 RPM
3RD NOTCH GOING UP LOOKS LIKE 450-500 RPM( i think this is way to low for any idle, this is where mine is sitting now)
4TH NOTCH UP SEEMS LIKE ITS @ ABOUT 750-800 RPM
5TH NOTCH IS @ THE MARKED 1000 RPM

in other words, no matter how much i jack with clocking the TPS for a good idle, it always seems to go back down to the 450-500 mark. We'll see how the new TPS works, gonna tackle that in a few hours.

changed out the TSP and seems to run good with no hesitation... for now.
Before i installed the new TPS here was the readings:

    @ engine cold:
    throttle control motor- 2.7 ohms(terminals 4 and 3)
    4.9-5.0 ohms (terminals 2 and 1)

    TPS-1.549 ohms (old original Aisan)
    1.798 ohms (new one installed)
1.800 ohms (other new one still in box)

APPS- 1.656 ohms (terminal E2 and VC)

I clocked the new TPS setting @ normal operating temp, in PARK @ 750 RPMS( 4th notch on tach). we'll see how this goes for the next few days to a week.
How is everybody elses specs looking that changed out the TPS in the last few days? Oh, got 8 TPS's left @ Parts Geek!

Did anyone else here fix their problems with the new TPS?

I just noticed something on the Partsgeek website- while checking if they had any left in stock-they do not.

    It's says "production: -08/2004"

I'm glad some guys got their TPS. But I hope this run wasn't some left over stock found in a dusty warehouse corner after 15 years.

Was planning on installing this weekend, got busy with other stuff. Maybe in the next few weeks I can nail down some time. Will post here with results. I’m guessing results can’t be worse.

I think what that means is that it is valid for vehicles produced through 08/2004. If you look at their site notes, it shows:

    upload_2019-8-19_3-37-20.jpg

Another way to look at it is - its better than paying full cost for the entire assembly, right? To me, it would be worth a chance at less than 50 bones. :taco:

Woosh! That makes me feel better. Years ago a batch came onto the market. It ended up being that they were found in a storage unit bought during an auction. And once they were gone that was it. I just was hoping that wasn't the case again.
