snoboarder, apologies for spelling your name wrong yesterday. I saw the pics that you posted, I believe post 23, and it shows the neat little peeky hole in the bottom of the tranny, is mine going to have that as well? Thought I would ask on that one. I am hesitant to take my truck in even though I am sure this needs attention. I have had a couple of issues with the dealer in the past, the original complaint was brushed off immediately, also performed services and washed vehicle when I specifically asked them not to wash and it was noted on the workorder. Anyway thats just my OCD coming out. I am going to look back through my records, I am certain I have the workorder from a couple years back stating that I was in with a complaint of a chirp. Maybe that will get them going. I do agree with previous posts that my best approach will be to act sweet and nice and maybe just a little informed. The chattering/vibration that I feel does not feel like clutch slip or the like just a general shudder when I let the clutch out and stomp on the accelerator, maybe thats been the norm the entire time since I dont go around stomping the gas frequently its hard to say. Once I do get this going I for sure will be replacing everything in there that can be since we are there already. thanks for everyones help.

Hey guys, I'm new to the thread. I've been reading this one about the throw out bearing since mine is squeaking. Squeaking started the same day I got my truck back from 60,000 mile service. My truck was at 59,941. Thought maybe something was loose from the service. Took it back to the T-dealer - the chirp would not happen. Of course it happened a day later, so I called back, dealer said it was pulleys sqeaking, so I sprayed the pulleys with silicone - no effect. Took it to a local garage to have them check it - they informed me of a bad throw out bearing. Relayed this to Toyota dealership. They said to grease points around clutch? (not sure if I'm remembering the exact greasing points they mentioned). My local garage didn't have time to grease it that day, so I said I would take it back to the T-dealer to have them do it. By this time, I've been reading your thread. Took it in today for greasing, told the shop guy about your thread - didn't mention any names, although I'm sure this site is not that secret. They greased it - told me there was no TSB on a throw out bearing for Tacomas. I told them I hoped he was right about the greasing, but that I would be back if he wasn't.
Couldn't hear any noise after I left. Thinking, hey, this might've worked. You know the rest. Drove it after work later today, sqeaking was very bad.
    P. Bauer or anyone else, I would greatly appreciate any documents you could send my way to plead my case with this dealer. (morfius007@comcast.net) 423-899-7391.
They're very nice, but I think they might be trying to cover up stuff with a smile. I notice the service ticket I received today states "CUSTOMER STATES CLUTCH PEDAL WILL SQUEAK AT TIMES WHEN COLD -- ADVISE --" which is not what I said. This is after I already had a ticket a few days earlier stating, "CUSTOMER STATES HEAR AN ODD SQUESK NOISE AT TIMES". If I had read the ticket there at the dealership, I would've made them change the statement right then.

    thanks,

I had dealer look at mine about 2 weeks ago they determined it to be the throw out bearing. they took it in to replace the clutch which i was fine with. went to pick it up and 2500 dollars later i got a new cluch, clutch pedal, resorvior, master and slave cylinders. does anyone see the need for all of this work?

That doesn't sound right. It sounds like they replaced the clutch disk, pressure plate and release bearing, put it all back together and still had the chirp. Then as a last resort, replaced those external components and got lucky with the master push rod length, which resolved the chirp. That's purely guesswork and speculation on my part, sorry. But that's almost as far as I went but we redirected the blame to the pilot shaft. You can adjust the length of the master push rod on the clutch pedal assembly, slightly, like a half turn or full turn to make it slightly longer, which sometimes puts just enough pressure on the fork to resolve it for awhile. The manual explains how to properly adjust clutch point engagement and the system is entirely self adjusting, but some guys mess with it just to get a different grab point and other threads say it is a quick fix for the chirp.

How many miles on yours usa?

Taken my Tacoma to dealer again this past Friday. Dealer confirmed it was throw out bearing. They're going to request that Toyota pick up the parts & asked if I'd contribute about $100 of the $206 labor. I agreed to contribute if he'd get me off for the rest. The amount for the parts was around $270 - throw out bearing & pressure plate. Waiting to hear back from them.

I just finished reading through this thread, and the thing that most stands out to me is the grilling from Toyota that always occurs when you bring something in under warranty and expect service. .

    First the questions:

    Did you take it offroad?
    Did you tow with it?

    OF COURSE I DID. . IT'S A 4WD TRUCK WITH A HITCH!

    Then the accusations:

Gee, did you drive it really harshly?. . it's not meant for that. . it should be shifted slowly. . bla bla bla

I don't buy this at all. . My 98 taco may have been bought back for a rusty frame, but aside from that was a rock. A couple times a year when the occasion fit I'd dump the clutch and tear off a few hundred miles of rubber. . I often had less than 4 wheels on the ground (sometimes none), and the hell with "towing". Vehicle recovery is much more stress than towing, and I recovered lots of american scrap with my tacoma (including a FWD minivan off a beach, and a jeep grand cherokee up a 15' embankment it had slid down). I ripped out fence posts in 4WD low on macadam too sometimes hopping the wheels when the posts didn't give right away :)

It's a toyota. . and it's a truck. . we should EXPECT to be able to do this stuff. . If the engineering and quality has changed, than it needs to change back :)

From day one, by 03 Corolla ground going into second gear (5spd). My wife took it into the dealership and they told her "shift slower, it's fine".

The darn thing ground at anything over 2.5k on the tach shifting into second. It was clear to me that either it was "broken" from the factory or some retard that didn't belong driving a stick test-drove it "forgot" the clutch a few times.

I took a day off work and took it to the dealership myself. The manager took it for a test drive with me riding shotgun and drove like a granny the whole time shifting each gear at about 2k on the tach (im not kidding). I requested we switch places and I shifted at a typical 4ish k on the tach through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. He rudely insisted I was driving the car harshly and shouldn't expect that kind of performance from it. . that it was an "economy car". I shouldn't expect to be able to shift at 4k. . really??

He agreed to check it out further anyway, and called days later to say the entire transmission had been replaced because some part seemed to have been not aligned correctly and caused damage to multiple other parts.

I skipped work again to personally pick it up and test drive it. The manager again accompanied me, and even after admitting the issue was not our fault snuck in a backhanded comment accusing me of "maybe" not knowing how to drive stick properly.

I wasn't in the greatest moods since I was missing work again for this, and proceeded to shift at .5k under redline 1st,2nd,3rd multiple times drifting two corners, and finishing off with a "test" of the ABS at a stop sign. All the shifts were dead-on, fast, and smooth.

When the car had come to a complete stop I looked him right in the eye, and simply said, "It seems good now, thanks AGAIN for looking into it".

He politely requested I take him back to the dealership while tightly gripping the door handle :D

my truck is doing the exact same thing, i blew out 2 clutchs and neither the throw out bearing or linkage was replaced or anything and now i took my truck in and they tell me it can not be covered for some stupid reason. when i brought the truck in there the clutch had no burnt scent to it but now the truck absolutely rieks of burning clutch, i'm debating on calling the corporate and putting a complaint on the dealership

I went through the very issue timmer is having with my '94 S10 back in the day. Of course, I was out of warranty and the trans shop took 5 tries to fix it until finally getting an answer from Chevy engineers. Isn't GM bankrupt now....? That experience DEFINITELY changed my mind about what transmission I choose.

That sucks, timmer. I feel for you. Let them fix it again and check the lemon laws in your state.

Check post #10 on this same thread, print it and take it to the dealer.

Make sure you explain that it's a common problem well documented in Toyota files and that you know that the bell housing has to be replaced.

Demonstrate knowledge about the problem and be polite but firm with your demands.

I'll be doing the same shortly

    Good luck

Well boys, just add another 05 to the list of chirping 6 speeds. 1 new clutch kit and two TO bearings before I found this site. I am now being told that I need to spend 2K on a new bell housing. I found this un-acceptable and am taking it to my Toyota factory rep in the area after the service manager at my local shop only offered me 20% off of parts and labor. Thanks for your help in proving this is on-going problem with most 2nd gen tacomas to the facotry rep.
