The Saga begun, last Monday I dropped my truck at the dealer 59963 miles, almost out of warranty and as expected, according to the tech it didn't presented the condition on the inspection.
They called me late Monday 6:00pm to inform me what happened and Tuesday all techs were going to training so nothing was done on Tuesday.

Wednesday I got to the dealer and ask for a test in front of me and buala, chirping started just as soon as they turned on the engine so they agree to repair after I explained carefully what was causing the problem and that a simple TOB replacement would be just a temporary solution, I insisted in new bellhousing, I guess that they'll do as they want.

I just called to see what was going on and they haven't done anything 'cause the Console Vault is in the way and they were about to call me, now I'm on my way to remove it from the truck and see if I can dig more info about the repair to be done.

    Update later wish me luck.

    Update:

Just picked up my truck, and they only changed the TOB, and the service manager told me that the warranty only is good until 60K I'm at 59975 so next week I'll be out of warranty so when the chirp comes back in a couple of months I'll have to sort it out on my dime.

The service manager and the not so cooperative from the start service advisor basically blew me off and gave me a phone number to take my plea to Toyota and only if Toyota approve new repairs, they would perform them.
The Service Manager denied ever heard about any problem with the 6 speed transmission and he told me that it was the first time he heard about it.
I show him the pics of the trans and and TOB and explained the problem in detail so there was no doubt about what I was talking about and they played dumb even with the FJ situation.

Seems incredible that it took them 5 days to change the TOB only, talk about incompetence!!!!

Seem like I'll be calling Toyota next Monday and start my plea there.

Any suggestions or documentation that may help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mandy

Yep I just got my truck out of Avondale Toyota here in AZ for my second time around with this bearing at 56000 miles. The "service manager" there claimed he has heard of this just once before and didn't admit there was a problem. Had to throw a temper tantrum for them to change out the bearing. They Finally agreed. Absolutely ridiculous. He said there are a bunch of cry babies on these forums for Toyota that whine and complain about everything. This is after I showed them the printouts of these entire thread. It looks like the service manaagers are going to side with Toyota. After all Toyota signs their checks... 4 years later... Still no TSB

AHAHAAA!! This is ridiculous...Toyota finally....replaced my T.O bearing under warranty. The tech noted on the invoice that he found slight grooves on the pilot shaft and managed to "buff" them out and fit new bearing!! The tech also said any further issues with t.o. or pilot shaft would be covered to 100,000?? Is there anything we can do as a group to make Toyota actually acknowledge this issue? I understand FJ owners are having the same problem...maybe they have something in the works?? I know my TO bearing will go bad again and possibly more ..... which sucks ! as I will get the bill.

This thread covers a lot of ground. By page 12 one of the guys is installing this himself (with pictures). You should check the whole thread however. Like I said, we've covered a lot of ground here :

I can't wait to see the final result... I'm hoping its a long term solution, but I guess we won't know that for quite awhile. Either way, I think I'm going to order one in the coming months...

Add me to the list. Mine started yesterday at the beginning of a 3000 mile trip. 45,000 miles. That was over a thousand miles ago and I can't tell if it's louder yet or not.

How far can I push this before it has to be fixed? Sounds like some of you have run with the noise for awhile.

I had this issue. Toyota did not adjust the clutch lever correctly. Needs to be so that bearing never "free spins". After two throwout bearing replacements, they pulled the tranny, nose cone was toast from bearing not adjusted right. A week of rental car, but got a brand new tranny including clutch, adjusted correctly this time. Issue has not returned.....yet.....knock on wood.

Right now, the best thing you can do is the PDM kit. For those of you unaware of it, the FJ and Taco share the same tranny/clutch set-up (hence, the same trouble). Several of the FJ guys have already gone with the kit. Some dealers are agreeing to install it when the trouble arises. Other guys are doing it themselves.

One guy did the install himself and also threw in a new URD clutch set-up and posted up pictures (the pics are on the last few pages). He also listed all the tools he needed to do the job. There is a lot of good info scattered throughout this thread (because when it started, there was no kit available for us) :

Just made the order to PDM. The kit will be here in a few days. I'm tired of the noise with no way to fix it with lube. So I made the call. Will try to take pics.

What was the total cost shipped?

And are you installing the PDM kit yourself or having a shop do it. Im planning on installing this along with my Stage III Clutch package, and I'm hoping the shop will just throw this on for free since he already has the tranny dropped...:D

    Good luck...
