    Performance- bored .20 over, Doug Thorely Headers, Magnaflow Exhaust, and K&N cold air intake. Exterior- 7 inch lift, ARB compressor, high pinion 4.88 with ARB locker, 4.88 open diff in the rear, PIAA 520 series lights up front, and 36 inch fire stick. Interior- 2 10inch JL W1 subs, Alpine MRX-V70 amp, Alpine type R SPR 17C 6x6 speaker in the back, Focal 165 VR with crossover tweeter up front, Cobra LTD CB, and Weather Tech floor mats.
    Does the first gens have the same ticking problem as the second gen engines?

    the "ticking" you hear may be the charcoal canister..mine does it just loud enough to hear it while at an idle

    Mine gets louder as it idles higher. im thinking from the valves just not 100% where to start. i would imagine something might need replaced i mean the truck does have 165k miles on it

    I had over 160K on my rig before I sold it and it still ran like a champ, no ticking, no oil leaks, nothing.

    it doesnt leak oil it and it runs great. Valve adjustment? with hydraulic lifters, didnt know you could do that.

    Me either lol. hmmm idk what to do. You think it would be expensive to redue the top end? or atleast just the valves

    find out whats ticking first..Maybe its the timing chain ticking, meaning its due for a replacement.

    Unless they have belts..I dunno, im tired and cant think right now:rolleyes:

    the 3.4 has a belt.

    the 90k thing is preventative maint. if it snaps while you're driving the only problem is that you're not going anywhere til you get a new belt (non interference design means that valves wont bend or whatever)

    V6 has a belt and should have been changed out at 90K, 4 bangers have a chain.

    They are not hydrolic. Its a shim under bucket valve train

    Lifters, fuel injectors, etc. Its a noisey engine.

    lol you aint lying. im farely sure its something that needs to be fixed because its gotten louder over the past few months. Im just not to sure where to start or even how to check that stuff

    none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
    Mine's made a sort of "ticking" sound the whole 14 years and 223,000 miles I've owned it. I wouldn't worry about it.

    I've noticed my 2.7l ticking here lately too...sounds like it may be the valves or something....the tick will increase with engine speed but then it goes away after a little bit. I've never had the timing belt or chain changed....no one has been able to give me a straight answer at the stealership about what it has in it. idiots.
