Do you think this will help in a 2018 set? It ticks non stop in idle. I hear people say it turns on and off to clean the system but mine is constantly ticking and at 9k miles. Thanks

maybe? id bet you are hearing lots of other various things like injector cleaning, high pressure fuel pump, direct injectors themselves etc etc. those 3.5L in the 3rd gens are noisy as hell

was your last car/truck equipped with a timing belt by chance ? I hear a lot of people comment about the constant chatter but it is just the timing chain clanking away vs a nice quiet timing belt set up...

I dont think mine make a huge difference either, seems like when I put 93 octane in it the ticking mostly went away

I know this is an older thread, but after reading it, just wanted to inform people that using gasoline with an octane rating that your car/truck wasn't designed for isn't going to solve any problems and can actually decrease engine performance.

The "grade" of gasoline, i.e. the octane rating, has nothing to do with the quality of the gasoline. To put it in very simple terms, a higher octane rating just means it's harder to combust. Higher octane ratings are used for high compression/boosted applications to prevent pre-ignition. That's it.

If you use a higher octane gasoline when your engine was designed for a lower octane gasoline, it will have more trouble achieving complete combustion. You will likely see slightly worse fuel economy and power.

Noticing a difference in engine noise, or anything else, because of a difference in octane rating is most likely a placebo effect.

That being said, I will be trying this rubber washer "mod" to see if it does anything to quiet the infamous ticking.

Update: Tried the rubber washers, didn't notice too much of a difference.

I had constant ticking noise. Used three20200828_143240.jpg 20200828_142003.jpg 20200828_142141.jpg R-03 washers, two between the bolt head and the VSV and one on the other side of the VSV and the mount. Also included a zip tie between a flange that was a contact point between the valve and the mount. 99% of the ticking noise is gone. Most likely the fuel injector ticking is what's left.

Hi guys. Hopefully this thread is still able to give any advise.
I’ve been getting a real loud ticking noise when I’m accelerating. It’s coming from the passenger side ( drivers side to you guys) I can hear it every time I accelerate and especially when I’m going past a fence or building when the sounds bounces back to me. My first thought it’s a crack in the extractor headers. I can’t see any black soot but that doesn’t mean it’s not coming from right in the middle of where the 3 pipes get welded into one. I have bought new pacemaker extractors but yet to install them.
I will also have a look at that bolt your have mentioned just incase.
I’m also up for any other possible causes. Oil pressure is perfect.

I have a rattle that was differnt also. I did this fix andnine was still there its only under power and about 2000 rpm to 2400. I was told it qasthe exhaust/catalytic convertor. I just ignored it and when or if it clogs or needs replacing wewill see. That was my different story not sure if it would be anything the same
