Eh, just get a supercharger, exhaust, and CAI and you will never hear the ticking again. Out of sight (sound), out of mind. LoL Although I will admit, the supercharger does have its own distinct rattle sound around idle that was worriesome at first until I read the manual on it.

Sorry, but the only "tick" this will fix... is the one between your ears. A new set of headers might dampen it but they would have to be made from case iron not stainless which most performance headers are. Ticking is just a by product of these 4.0 engines

    Yep.
my ticking has gotten substantially worse in the past few weeks... oddly enough if i squeeze one of the hoses the noise goes away. any ideas?

i'll get a video of it some time this week.

Okay...to me, this ticking sounds like your motor has a bad valve so as a lifelong motorhead, it's dreadfully disturbing. Even though I'm now fairly sure it isn't that, the sound still bugs me and its a little embarrassing.

Observation: If you're unsure if this VSV is the source of your noise it seems as though disconnecting the electrical connector and test driving the truck would help you make the determination. If you still hear the tick, look elsewhere for the source. Anyone tried that approach?

also called a PCSV or Purge Control Solenoid Valve.
they are directly related to evaporative emissions. the vapors that get trapped in the fuel tank are sucked into the engines intake manifold while the engine is running via this PCSV and that just purges pressure and vapors from the fuel tank to the intake manifold. commanded by the PCM from first start up they cycle on and off many times per key cycle.

I know this ticking is common with the 1GR in Tacoma's, but in the few FJ Cruisers I have driven I have not noticed it as much. I did notice it really bad in a 2006 Regular Cab Tundra with the 1GR V6. Anyone else notice the ticking in non-Tacoma Toyota's? 4Runners? New Dual VVT-i 4.0L's?

the PCSV isnt something you want to removed from your truck all together. i would advise putting them back on the vehicle with the rubber washers as suggested.

I switched to syn from dino. Mine ticks under 30F on start up. It goes away when the engine warms up. We have not hit that yet but hoping syn will have a positive effect. Will report back if I can find this post again at that time.

My hardware stores dont have a 1/16" rubber washer. But they do have 1/4" washers so I am assuming if you need 4 1/16" washers, one 1/4" will do!

That might be too thick. I used 2, 1/16" thick washers, to get a 1/8" spaceing.

ooo i just saw that... I guess I will give it a try and see if one on each side will work. How will I know if its too thick?
