What do you think I should do leave it or take it somewhere? How much would it cost? My truck runs great gets around 22 mpg but that tick doesn't sound normal.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I agree that the tick doesn't sound normal. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting the issue yourself, I'd take it some where to at least have a once over done. Cost? That all depends on where you go. Local shop will be cheaper, but sometimes finding a reputable or knowledgeable one can be tricky. The stealership will have the experience...............and the biggest bill.

There's several ways to do this:
    1. Have the local shop diagnose and complete repair which is no gaurantee or
    2. Have the stealership diagnose and repair, expect a big bill or
    3. The "throw a bunch of parts at it" method (buy all the suspected bad parts and have local guy install)

I think I'm just going to leave it alone I posted this video in 1st gen taco as also and a few people said they have the same issue. Hopefully won't leave me stranded one day. Thanks for your help wish I was more of a mechanic and could check some of your suggestions out myself.

Newly rearranged front end, sick Hurst shifter yo gives it lightning fast shifts, thats it more to come.
Man just saw your video, you have something going on valve-train related, possibly something in the timing chain but you need to pull that valve cover and have a look around. By a repair manuel and just start in, its the best way to learn. Good Luck

Did you ever figure out what the ticking was? My 98 2.7L with 143k just started doing the same thing. Sounds like it’s coming from upfront of the motor but no pulleys appear to be loose..

When I bought my 2.4L brand new, there was a tick at idle, it’s supposed to, that’s how Toyota designed it. When driving, the tick will go away, or any revving of the engine. That’s how they designed the spacing on the lifters. You remove the ticking and the spacing will be too tight and you’ll damage the lifters or rockers. It's called the Toyota tick for a reason. I had a 22R and it did this, my newer yet 23 year old 22RE does the same thing. It’s supposed to. Take the tick out with tightening the rockers and you’ll damage the lift rods or rocker arms. Let the little bitch tic, it’s supposed to, at idle. Also, it’s a 4 banger, your torque is at higher rpms, not low. Run that lil’ bitch at higher rpms, she likes it.
