    Just curious how a Tie rod can physically connect to a ball joint ??

    Our ball joints come as more of a bolt on plate type.....the lower anyway.they simply bolt in.they have a homebuilt into em to except the tie rod

    used to have - 99 2.4L I4 5 lug & 04 prerunner v6
    if you already have it then yes, its just this style, if you look at how it works, all the pressure is on the pivot pin of the tool rather then having all the pressure directly pressing on the ball joint bolt. for this reason I don't like the design of that tool and prefer something like I linked or the one that Digiratus posted. in fact I like the one Digiratus has better but I haven't seen one when I looked

    What also works is loosening the nut, and leaving it threaded on a bit, and putting the truck back on its tires and wiggling the steering wheel back an forth. The tie rod will usually pop right out.
