    consequential ?

this holds oil inside so oil doesn't leak outside

even 'normal' timing chain covers can leak

do you know the #1 cause of engine fires ? leaked oil onto hot surfaces and grimy engine components

I do believe anything that is designed to hold oil into oil galleries and not leak to the
outside is at the top of the list of things not to bugger up or do guesswork on

it is NOT SAFE you lose this argument.

go find a smart person then, who can re-educate you on what is safe to cut corners on. timing chain cover is not one of them

if it were a timing -belt- cover, then cheezeball away, those are dry

are you aware that there are bolts (which is what this fastener should be also but they decided to make it more complicated for whatever reason) 2" up and to the left and that the gasket maker i used is not likely to let go in the next 10 years ? sounds like you need to put things in perspective and free yourself from the oversimplified black-white way of looking at things in life. zero-risk bias will reduce your life to working just to keep yourself safe among irrational media induced paranoias. there are a lot more much dangerous things in life than a 0.00000000001% chance of a timing chain cover leaking 41 years from now.

i find that trades people (vs. scientific people) are much more likely to look at the world as black-white vs. the reality of many shades of gray and unable to gauge themselves on the scale, instead going to either one extreme side or the other

With all this talk of shades of gray I get the feeling that OP kinda wants to get tied up and then have some fun with a kinky millionaire

But seriously, fix the damn thing correctly. it's not that tough.

it wasn't you -- you obviously offered a different "out of the box" perspective with JB Weld. there were others who were more rigid to whom i was referring. look through the thread.

i would also add that i find you to belong in the 20% useful minority of users on this site. i was hoping you wouldn't find yourself targeted by the nazi comment but glad i was able to offer an explanation.

it is because this site lack functionality to weed out useless assholes like yourself from people who actually have something constructive to offer ... and that can be used as a reference manual by future info seekers. but sadly, useful advice here is buried under loads of worthless troll garbage

in the few months that you have been appearing in my threads, you have not offered an iota of useful advice or problem solving techniques. all you've ever done was stir problems by trolling, insinuated incompetence or improper conduct. Not a single time have you offered any answer of technical utility.

Wasn't he the first one to suggest needing a new radiator cap within like 20 minutes of your initial post in one of your amazing threads?

Why don't you just remove the stud, rethread the hole, put the cover on and put a bolt in there?

You talk about cutting corners ect saving time ect, Being smart ect.
You didn't have the ingenuity to look at the issue and fix it within 7minutes. You waste a day and a half asking strangers for advice then arguing with them...
