So far I'm pretty set on a Samsung UN46C6500.

The best price I've found is $1,638 with a free wall mount from Abe's of Maine, though I'm hoping I can get Best Buy to do a price match, then use a 10% coupon I have :spy:.

Anyone got a contender, or is this a solid purchase?

    Note that
    -I don't need a wall mount, I'm putting it on a cart.
    -I don't have any care for 3D
-my BD player already does netflix
-I'm using Logitech Z5500 speakers (which contain a digital decoder).

I'm solely looking for picture quality.
I'm not opposed to different tech

The 6500 was already pushing the budget - I was hoping for $1,500. Even last year's 8 and 7 series are up there. I could maybe step down to a UN40B7000, but is that gaining me anything?

Yeah but I have nothing right now

I saw this but I'm not sure how sketchy it is buying a new TV off craigslist... the guy could have reboxed it... who knows.

I also spent time at lunch to see what else there was for LCD or Plasma:

    Plasma: PN50C550 $1050 (they don't make smaller)
LCD: LN46C630 $950, or LN46C650 $1,100 (the 630 comes without stupid internet crap, but the 650 is easier to find)

Saving $500 and going with the plasma might be the thing to do.

I still haven't waded through other brands yet

Samsung seems to have cornered the market on good quality LED TV's. I am sure someone who works at Best Buy could give some more info about another brand. I am closed minded about the next TV, it will be a Samsung LED TV. lol

    Just closing up:

I just finished a week's worth of research and finally bought a Panasonic TC-P50G25.

I smashed through CNET, TelevisionInfo.com, LCDTVBuyingGuide.com, htmag, and several other review sites.
    I talked incessantly to Benca1.
    I joined highdefforum.com
I've been to three local TV shops (Best Buy, Video Only, Standard TV & Appliance). I've made myself sick of salesman and I've stared at Best Buy TVs for a few hours.
I've compared Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic.

The resounding opinion, reviews, and tests all point to the Panasonic. The picture quality is unmatched, even by TVs costing double the price.

There is no question in my mind that I made the best choice.

Looks like you made a good choice. I'll be interested to hear about your thoughts after you've had it awhile.

That's about the price I would have paid at Best Buy. When I moved addresses, they gave me a 10% off coupon so it would have been less.

I got my set at Video Only in Beaverton. They were cheaper than online, plus honored my BB coupon. Out the door price was $1175 for the G25.
