Buys first year of new model. Expects 0 problems. Hope they fixed it and it's the last of your problems. But that's why I went with the 4.0 Time tested.

2” lift Bilstien 6112’s and 5160’s. 265/70/17 Nitto Grapplers G2. TRD wheels. TRD Grill. ARE shell. Exhaust.
You should have 60/60000mile on powertrain.

So interesting point is that they told you the gasket is thicker. All of the gaskets they replace during the job have nothing to do with the leak (o rings, oilpan , thermostat housing, etc). The leak is at a machined interface that requires a liquid gasket. My warranty claim says specifically insufficient liquid sealant from factory. Unfortunately it occasionally happens with new manufacturing techniques that use machined surfaces with only liquid sealant. Main thing is they fix it under warranty and hopefully only once.

Lol. When searching the forum I found more threads with the timing cover leak with the 4.0 than the 3.5. Unfortunately this seems to be an issue with several Toyota motors and it’s random throughout the life cycle of the motors.

Actually it’s CPO so I should have Powertrain coverage for 4 more years or approx 65k miles. I’m concerned about stuff not covered under the Powertrain warranty that they may have touched in the repair process. It seems every repair is done a bit differently.

Yes, Seems strange they wouldn’t just have a set procedure for the repair on Tacomas. They use this engine in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles and I have seen many apart getting the reseal. But that being said I used to service many different brands of dealerships and everyone has their issues. Good luck.

That dude trolls the 3rd gen section / threads constantly, when he owns a 2nd gen, wouldn't even bother.

I’ve done the same in the 2nd Gen forum, mainly to see what issues will come up with 3rd Gen trucks since a lot of parts are the same.

Curious what method they use on yours. Went to check on my truck yesterday and it was in three pieces. Frame and bed on the floor, can in the air and motor sitting in front of the truck. There were a bunch of parts scattered around. I was surprised with what I saw.

Hopefully I’ll have it back tomorrow.

Picked it up today and all seems normal. Attached is the invoice if you’re curious.

Agreed. My 2.7 (2nd gen) seeped for most of the 11 years I had it. I didn't worry about it.

Just checked mine, bought the truck used a cpl months ago, it currently has 36k on it and definitely has oil around the ps pump and passenger timing chain cover area. None has ever leaked on the floor but there sure is quiet a bit in that area. Guess Il be making an appointment yay.

Dropped mine off Monday, didn't get approved for repairs till Wed. Said will be done by Saturday but Im not holding my Breath. They are resealing the timing cover and also the 3rd brake light. They gave me a brand new camry to drive which drives way better than my truck so it's not a big deal. My buddy is the manager there I can see if he will send me some pics while it's in the shop.

How many miles do you have on your truck? Do you mind my asking what brand of oil you use? I'm just astonished that if this problem is actually a liquid seal that was improperly installed at the factory by a robot, why does it show up way down the road? And the amount of work to get this replaced is mind boggling.
