I've got an appointment tomorrow to get the new Tacoma quad-cab tinted. On my cars in the past, I've gotten the same tint all the way around, rather than going darker on the rear and back widows. On the truck however, I'm considering going a shade darker on the rear doors and back window, with of course the darkest legal shade on the front doors.

Think it would look odd having darker tint on the rear doors and back window?

I usually get 15-20% on all my vehicles. The fronts will always be lighter than the rears due to the windshield letting in more light so is usually ok to go a bit darker in the front if you want to match the rears

Not at all . It's hard to tell, but it's lighter in the front.

Are the front and rear 1 shade apart?

    Thanks!

I did 20% on the fronts and did 35% in the rear. The rear is slightly darker due to the factory tinted glass - I'd say it's around the 15% mark.

I did the same all the way around, but the rear windows were already dark out of the factory. In person, you have to really take a closer look to notice that the rear windows are darker, but from a distance, it's harder to tell

How are these window tint companies working out for you guys? I'm thinking of getting the front doors done on my '14 to match the rears, but does the tint last a really long time? Does it get lines in it from going up and down on the door windows?

Go with a good quality tint and a good installer. This is one area you do not want to cheap out on. I had a local shop install Luminar 20% carbon film with a lifetime warranty for $79. I have had it in for a few months and it has not faded or scratched at all. Hope it helps

I paid for ceramic which is $$$ but at the same time, it lasts. And if for some reason it doesn't, its guaranteed for free replacement. The shop I went to has been open since I can remember and the guy does exotic cars all day so I'm not worried he'll be going out of business any time soon.

On a 2017 quad-cab SR, are the back windows really darker? I can't really tell if mine are or not...

I did 15% all around and when metered after applying the tint it read 8% on the meter due to the UV tint already on the windows. Legal here in Ohio is 50%. Just hoping I don't get ticketed or made to scrape it off.

I went with 30% ceramic tint on the front door windows.... matched the back doors exactly as I wanted.

So you have no aftermarket tint on the rear windows? My rear windows are certainly not that dark...

Nope. No aftermarket tint on rear windows at all. That's straight from the factory.

I stayed legal for Louisiana on the front two windows. I opted to put 90% on my windshield (pretty much clear), but is illegal here without a doctor's approval/letter or letter proving an employee of law enforcement.I don't have such a letter. I would have preferred 70% on the windshield, but didn't want to risk it. This tint is expensive.

Did 3M Crystalline all over for the IR heat rejection. MGM color with black-on-black Clazzio covers in the hot/humid South is rough.
    • Windshield: 90%
    • Front windows: 60%
    • Rear windows and sunroof: 40%
      • Plus the factory dye, which is estimated at 35% by itself

So just to be clear, if I go with the same shade all around, then the side windows in the rear doors will be darker, just due to the factory tint?
