Hey guys, first post (just picked up a new 2023 trd off road).

Anyways, first thing i was dying to do was throw on a trd pro grill (purchased from tacomaworld) but I forgot to add the TSS sensor garnish to the order. So, I picked one up on Amazon for $25, the one with the most positive reviews. But I noticed the silver pattern looked awful on my all black truck, so I decided to tint the sensor garnish.

Used a 20% VViViD tint (costs $8 for the film), and blacked out the sensor garnish. I saw another thread talking about this, some guys said it'd be fine and some hated on the idea and said it would throw the sensor off. Well, I blacked it out and it looks sexy and works great, AND--with the addition of one washer under the actual TSS sensor, in between the sensor and the bracket--it does not throw any lights on the dash. Tested it by crossing over lanes and tried late braking to test the auto brake detection feature, and it still worked as it did before installing the TRD Pro grill.

So, point of this post is to let you know that if you want a blacked out TSS sensor garnish, that it does indeed work as designed

I basically did this with the stock TRD Sport Toyota logo but I used VHT Niteshades taillight tint spray. In other forums people mentioned that it would cause a problem with the TSS sensor behind the emblem but that doesn't make any logical sense. The emblem/garnish is a solid piece of plastic, so it doesn't matter what color the out facing side of it is, it's just there to protect the TSS sensor.

It's been months, and I've had no issues with my TSS.

Exactly. Makes no sense why there is any debate at all, over the sensor garnish being tinted causing issues. It is literally a piece of plastic, therefore the sensor must be using laser technology.

I put camo film over my TSS logo and have absolutely no issue with functionality in any aspect. You'll be fine tinting it!
