Hi TacomaWorld, I plan to get my Tacoma tinted. (2013 Tacoma Double Can Prerunner)

    Windshield= 70%
    Other All Window= 25%

I just want to know I can tint over the sun stripe that is already on the vehicle. And it also has tint from the dealership, do I need to remove the tint before applying the new tint?
    21487831866.jpg

I also want to see what percentage tint you guys have on your Tacoma. Thanks

You can tint over the factory tint, itll just make it darker. So that 25 will be more like 10.

    Perfectly stock?
Front_Tint_Jan2020.jpg I put 50% on my front windshield. Got the fancy ceramic UV stuff. It made a big difference. I also sound-proofed and insulated my ceiling.

Yes but the factory tint is not permanent to the glass, it can be removed.
I heard that it has to be removed before applying new tint

I can assure you, it does not need to be removed. I have had shops tinted over mine, looks perfect.

The shop needs to double check and will advise based on your existing condition. Some tacos came with impregnated tint within the window, my buddy has an 07 OR that was like this. Mine has an actual adhesive tint that needed to be removed.

The factory tint is a layer on the outside of the window. At least on the rear back panel glass. Aftermarket tint places put their tint on the inside of the glass.

The rear doors and rear glass are tinted glass. If the fronts have tint it will need to be removed then tinted.

I wouldn't bother with 70% tint, two reasons - first it's hardly noticeable at all, and second it's a bad idea to tint the entire windshield. While I realize that you could tint the windshield at 70% and still see through it perfectly fine, it kind of becomes pointless at that juncture because you are paying to get something done that you won't even see.

If you roll your back windows down some and look closely at the edge and you should be able to tell if there is a layer of film or not. If there is.. it’s been added on at the dealer by someone who does tint.

A lot of guys even go clear and just have the ceramic film put on to reflect heat. Makes a big difference.

Huh, interesting. I've tinted every vehicle I've owned but I've actually never used ceramic. I feel like vehicle color would make more of a difference than type of tint as far as heat goes, but I never did any research so I'm just guessing on that.

Exactly. I considered doing just the ceramic tint on the windshield but everyone here in the southeast has like 30% tint on the windshields and blackout on the sides. 50% with ceramic has been fantastic.

    This thread needs more pics.

The front and the rear windows have a layer of tint on it. It's very noticeable.

Is it really hard to tint? Because I plan to do it myself.

I’ve never successfully done it myself.. I tried it once and it turned out awful so now I just take everything to a pro.. usually no more than 200 dollars in my area and usually a life time warranty.

Can I tint on top of the sun strip? Or I want to tint below?
